Chapter 18 - Plotting to Make the Crown Complete

Lemuria is different from the world of man. Humans created technology to simplify their lives and the Otherkind used their power to do the same. Even though the two peoples were different in so many ways, their thoughts still had some convergence. The humans created phones and other devices to communicate and the Otherkind have something similar as well. These devices are called Magia. They are the closest thing to technology on Lemuria. These devices are driven by Soul, the power that holds and binds the world.

There are many devices that can be used for communication and this means that information spreads very fast on Lemuria. It can even be said that communication is even faster in the land of the Otherkind. This is because the magia are far more efficient when compared to the devices that the humans use. The magia never run out of power since they run on the very essence of the world. There are no signal problems since the magia are connected by mystical forces that can be found in every corner of the world.

With these being the communication standards on Lemuria, it is easily understood why news about what happened to Lemuria Academy spread all over the continent in just a few hours. Magia were used to play recordings of what happened to the academy. The recordings were so clear that each move made by the principal could be seen easily. Someone had recorded the battle and the massacre that followed the attack.

When Hildr returned to the Draugr Domain, she met up with her father and to her surprise, one of the servants brought them this recording.

Hildr had made sure that no witness was left alive and yet there was now a recording.

The two sat next to each other in a luxurious room and watched the recording that was cast on the air before them. The images were so clear that a human could never believe that this was all the doing of the small round stone in King Harald's hand.

This was a communication magia.

The broadcast that was playing in the room was the news from Lemuria Daily.

"Lemuria Academy, one of the top ten most influential academies for young Otherkind has been attacked by powerful forces that killed everyone and left the place in ruin. The Principal, the man once called the Sun Born Saint was not spared from the evil of these people. He fought valiantly and yet his power was seemingly no match for the cowardice of his foes."

As the female news anchor said this, a recording of the principal being forced to absorb the power of his spell was shown in the background. They also showed a blurry recording of Hildr running towards the students in order to force the principal to make this heartbreaking decision. The anchor was very skilled and when the news came to an end and some other programme came on, even Hildr felt some degree of guilt for her actions. Since she was feeling like this, she could only imagine how the rest of the world was feeling about her and what she had done.

She had been given the name of Evil One.

The anchor had only needed to call her the Evil One only once and the rest of the world followed.

This name had already spread all over the continent by the time the news came to an end.

Hildr said nothing and neither did her father. The two were in deep thought about the situation.

Hildr was sure that she had not left even a single witness to the crime. The only possibility was that the young woman whom she had failed to kill was behind all this but this was impossible since Hildr had made sure to take away everything that the young woman had on her. If she had had a recording magia, Hildr would have taken it away as well. She had failed to kill the young girl but she had made sure that the girl had no evidence to back up her words. Even if she were to survive and fall in the hands of the enemies of the Draugr, they could not use her to harm the draugr in any way since they would need evidence for that.

Since it could not possibly be this woman, Hildr was left in confusion.

"Since they edited the recording to not show anything about you or the draugr, the person responsible is after something else that we will only get to know once they approach us," said the king. Hildr nodded in agreement. She had come to the same conclusion. The person had made sure to even edit out any parts where the blurred figure used their power. This showed that they did not want the incident to be traced back to the draugr.

"Since this person wants something from us, we do not need to worry about them for now. Our priority should remain on the Crown of the Endless." Once Hildr said this, the king stopped worrying about the situation with the recording.

Hildr brought out the crown and placed it on the table before them.

The crown was still as ordinary as ever. There was nothing attractive about it. This was when one used the normal sight. When powerful beings such as the king and Hildr used their second sight that allowed them to see the world beyond the world, they could see dark energy that came off the crown in waves.

This was proof that this was indeed the Crown of the Endless.

"Now all we need to do is get the Three Jewels of Life," said the king.

The crown had three indentations that clearly showed that something was missing.

These were the spaces where the jewels had to be placed in order to complete the crown.

Only with these three jewels can the true power of the crown be brought forward. Unfortunately, the crown had been split into four pieces by the Sages of Old who understood that the risk of the crown falling in the wrong hands was too great. It turned out that they were right about this since the crown was now in the wrong hands. What Hildr and her father wanted to do with the crown was beyond diabolical. It went against the natural flow of Soul and even perverted all that was good.

To get the crown, the father and daughter pair had schemed for months. All the soldiers that had gone with Hildr were dead and could not even be resurrected since the weapons that had killed them had the blessing of a god. When Hildr had been attacking the academy for the crown, her father had been holding off the powerful reinforcement that had been sent from the Dragon Capital the moment the academy was attacked. These reinforcements were made up of people as powerful as the now dead principal.

The king had to face over ten of these people. The fact that he had managed to do so for so long while not using his true power out of consideration for the fact that they had to do everything in secret showed how powerful the Night King truly was.

The risk they had taken on to get the first piece of the crown was great since they could end up facing the Wrath of the Dragon Capital if they were to be discovered.

The whole world would turn against them. There would be no place left for them in this world.

Still, the two were not deterred even though they understood that to get the three jewels, the risks would be even greater.

Nothing could change their minds.

The two continued with their plotting but to get the jewels, they would have to enter the enemy's den. The Three Jewels of Life were in the Dragon Capital that was at the center of Lemuria.

Lemuria was divided into countless domains with some of them even being on other planes of existence.

Each domain had its king, whose rule was absolute but this was only at first glance. In truth, there was someone above all the kings and this was the Soul King.

The kings had to obey the Soul King or face destruction. The Soul King was the true ruler of the Otherkind.

All Otherkind were his subjects. Even the kings who were given the freedom of ruling their domains as they pleased understood that this was all just a façade.

The kings had to follow the Thirteen Laws as written in the Soul Code.

The one who wrote these laws was the Soul King and he enforced them absolutely. All those that had tried to rebel against the Soul King in the past had been killed and their bloodlines wiped out. It was said that no matter how powerful one might be, they could never face the wrath of the Soul King.

This was because the Soul King was the manifestation of the will of the world. They were Soul given life.

The Soul King had been alive since the dawn of time and when the dusk finally fell on all things, it was said that the Soul King would still be around, watching over the great darkness until the universe gained new life.

This was the Soul King and this being was the one who now had the Jewels of Life.

These Jewels were the crown jewels of the great empire that was Lemuria.

The jewels were kept in the capital, close to the Soul King. If Hildr and her father wanted to get their hands on these jewels, they had to get them from the Soul King.

Hildr was powerful and so was her father but the Soul King could not be defined by a simple word such as power. They were far above what this word could describe.

If Hildr were to try and attack the capital, this was no different from a death sentence. The Soul King would not even have to personally make a move. His followers would be more than enough to deal with Hildr. The capital had many powerful people who would take it upon themselves to serve the Soul King by killing off anyone who dared disturb their peace.

Everyone knew where the three jewels were but no one had ever tried to steal them.

To try and do so is madness that cannot be excused.

Hildr and her father had both known about the difficulty that they would face in getting the jewels and they had come up with a plan.

The Soul King holds a competition every seven years. This competition is between the Grand Academies of Lemuria.

Lemuria Academy had been one of these academies.

At any moment in time, there are thirteen academies that are referred to as the Grand Academies of Lemuria.

There are many academies of Lemuria but only thirteen are recognized by the Soul King.

These thirteen gain their title as Grand Academies by coming in among the top thirteen in the Soul Tournament.

The competition to reach and remain among the top thirteen is very brutal but the rewards to those able to persevere are more than worth the trouble.

The reason Hildr and her father believed that this was the best option to getting the jewels was because this was the only time when people such as Hildr could be allowed into the Dragon Palace.

During the Soul Tournament, the top thirteen schools complete the final struggle inside the palace.

Since this was the case, Hildr came up with a plan to join one of the current Grand Academies and compete until she qualifies with the academy as one of the participants. When inside the Dragon Palace, Hildr would be close enough to the jewels to use the power of the crown to summon the jewels to her. Even the treasury of the Soul King could not stop the three jewels from heeding the power of the crown when it was so close.

The first step in this plan was for Hildr to join one of the current Grand Academies that was hoping to defend their title in seven years time.

To make her journey smoother, Hildr had to join the most powerful academy since they would have the greatest chances at once again reaching the top thirteen and being invited to the Dragon Palace.
