Chapter 20 - Captured (1)

"Did any of you have a connection to Solomon before he died?" I immediately asked the other two avatars.

Only both of them said, "If we knew, would we have come to you?"

A bitter smile appeared on my face as I tried to connect my senses to Solomon, but it just didn't work at all.

Well, it would be strange if it did work since Solomon was already dead.

To connect to a dead avatar…Since it was already dead, it should have already become a corpse. It was only natural that I wouldn't be able to connect since a corpse wouldn't have any awareness.

"What do we do then?" I couldn't help asking the other two avatars.

Once again, they said, "If we knew, would we have come to you?"

The three of us fell into silence as we started debating what to do.

But while I was lost in deep thought, I couldn't help feeling that there was some kind of connection being established.

It wasn't a connection with the other two avatars, it was a connection to Solomon.

"Do you two feel it?" I asked the other two avatars.

Both of them immediately said, "Yes."

Only what was this connection?

Going back a few hours…

"So this is the Magic Tower. This is the place where I'll be staying for the next while." I said while looking up at the Magic Tower that was in front of me.

The main body had someone drop me off in one of the nearby villages, but I came over to take a closer look at the Magic Tower.

After all, this was the Magic Tower!

This was the place where all of the magicians in this world gathered and the place that even had sages. Most importantly, it was a place that had been famous in the game, so that was why I wanted to take a close look at it.

But once I was done, it was time to head back to the village that I had been dropped off in.

That village played a special role as the village that was closest to the Magic Tower.

That was the village where the test for joining the Magic Tower would be held, so that was the place where I would have to wait until it was time for the Magic Tower's test.

But since this was the place that the Magic Tower held its test, it meant that this place wasn't a simple village.

With the way that it was built and the scope of the village, it was better to call it a town rather than a village. However, the people in the surrounding area all called themselves a village for some strange reason.

Since this was a village that was built by the Magic Tower for the purpose of the test, that meant that it was quite the safe place.

Or it should have been…which is what I thought.

That was why I didn't question it when there were some people that approached me saying that they were taking the test as well.

I thought that I would be able to get some information about the test from them, which was why I went along with it and drank with them.

Only I found that my vision soon faded…and it wasn't that I had gotten drunk.

The next thing that I heard was…

"Are you done yet? Did you turn that body into a lich?"

"I honestly never thought that I would be able to obtain a corpse of this level. Did you see his reaction to the mana test?"

"Right, it almost seems like a waste to turn him into a lich. If I was stronger, I would have turned him into an elder lich or even a lich king."

"Psh, I'm the one that got this corpse, what are you talking about?"

Hearing these voices, I slowly opened my eyes.

It was just that I found that I didn't actually have any eyes anymore. Or at least they didn't open the way that human eyes would have opened.

Instead of eyelids opening up to reveal eyeballs, the vision in front of me just slowly expanded.

In fact, it even felt like I could see more than I could see previously.

"Oh, it's awake. Did you make sure to imprint the command seal on its phylactery?"

"Of course, do you think that I'm an idiot? This isn't my first time creating something like this."

As I was looking around and slowly making sense of my surroundings, this was what the two voices said.

Turning in that direction, I saw two people dressed in dark robes that covered their faces and bodies.

Seeing that I turned in their direction, the two of them looked up at me.

From the bottom of their hoods, I could see smiles on their faces.

And from what they had said previously, I figured out what happened.

"Shit, I died and they turned my corpse into a lich…" There was this bitter feeling that filled me as this realization sunk in.

However, it felt strange.

It didn't feel like I was being restrained by anything…

"Follow my orders and bow before me to show your loyalty."

As soon as they said this, there was this feeling inside of me that seemed to be compelling me to follow this order. But that feeling soon disappeared as if it had just faded into nothing.

I was a bit surprised that I had been able to resist whatever control measure that they had put on me.

But then I was even more surprised when I heard…

"Are you there? Solomon, are you there?"

It seemed that even though I had died and been turned into a lich, I was still connected to the other three.

"Status." I couldn't help thinking to myself, calling out the status window.

When I saw it, I was certain that I was still connected to the system and the other three.

That meant that I still had access to the Shared Stats skill.

It was all starting to make sense.
