The Auspicious Beast locked eyes with the silver wolf, who watched her warily, its muscles tensed and ready to spring. A sly, almost sinister smile curled across her lips as she murmured,
"A little wolf with spiritual attributes... this could be fun. Let's see what you've got."
As her voice faded, six soul rings slowly rose beneath her feet, casting a brilliant glow across the forest floor. The sight of those soul rings made the silver wolf stiffen—its instincts screamed of danger, even though its intelligence wasn't fully developed.
Green-gold. Green-gold. Green-gold. Green-gold. Green-gold. Green-gold.
The silver wolf had encountered plenty of humans in its lifetime—some it had escaped from, others it had slain—but none had soul rings like this. Human soul rings only came in white, yellow, purple, black, and rarely, red. Red, it had heard, belonged to the terrifying hundred-thousand-year beasts. But green-gold? It had never seen, heard, or even imagined such a thing.
These six noble, ethereal rings radiated an oppressive majesty. The aura alone sent chills down the silver wolf's spine. It couldn't understand it, but its beastly instincts screamed—this enemy was not to be trifled with.
In truth, had the Auspicious Beast merely taken human form of her own volition, she would have had to follow the soul master's path—hunting and claiming soul rings from fallen beasts. But her case was different. She had been blessed by the Goddess of Life.
These six green-gold soul rings weren't natural—they were divine. Formed by the fusion of life energy, fate power, and the golden might of the Dragon King, they were bestowed upon her the moment she took human form. Each ring symbolized a confluence of those three great forces—life, destiny, and draconic power.
And they weren't ordinary in effect either.
Each green-gold ring, like a red hundred-thousand-year soul ring, granted not one, but two powerful soul skills. As her cultivation rose, more green-gold rings would awaken on their own. She didn't need to hunt. Her power evolved naturally, like a divine creature ascending through destiny's design.
To her, this was perfectly normal. She was, after all, an Auspicious Beast—child of destiny and heir to the Three-Eyed Golden Lion, bearing not one, but three force systems. Having six divine rings? It was just the beginning.
Despite the overwhelming pressure, the silver wolf didn't retreat. A fierce light burned in its eyes. It was a beast born to fight and survive. Cowardice wasn't in its blood.
While the Auspicious Beast was still slowly releasing her rings, the silver wolf acted.
Its silver fur erupted with radiant light. With a snarl, it opened its jaws and fired a massive orb of silver energy straight at her.
The orb made no sound as it cut through the air, eerie in its silence. The Auspicious Beast narrowed her eyes, tracking it with practiced precision. But just before the orb reached her—
Boom! The silver sphere shifted, morphing into a fireball nearly a meter across, roaring with heat.
Caught off guard, the Auspicious Beast dodged reflexively. Though she avoided the main impact, part of her rough linen cloak was scorched away, revealing a glimpse of the smooth, delicate skin beneath. The flames had even singed her arm, leaving a faint red burn.
"You perverted little mongrel!"
Her emerald eyes flared with fury.
'You dare mess up my cloak? I just patched this one!'
Not only had the wolf damaged her clothes—it had burned her skin. That alone earned her wrath.
And what was that? Fire? Just moments ago it had been silver... now flames?
The Auspicious Beast didn't know that silver wolves possessed a chaotic elemental body. They could simulate up to six elemental affinities—fire, wind, earth, ice, water, and lightning. All of it controlled through their powerful spiritual cores.
She watched carefully as the silver wolf's body shivered again. Another orb formed in its mouth—this time larger, more condensed. But before she could guess its element, the orb exploded mid-air into a flurry of slicing wind blades.
'Wind? Now it's wind?!'
Before she had time to complain, the barrage of wind blades was already upon her. Too fast to dodge. She gritted her teeth and activated her first soul ring.
Golden light shimmered to life around her, forming a tough, translucent shield over her body. The wind blades struck one after another, but each was repelled by the shining golden layer.
Golden Dragon Bodyguard—her first defensive skill, born of her bloodline. It shielded her from physical and elemental strikes alike.
The silver wolf hesitated. Its wind blades were powerful enough to pierce through many soul devices—yet they hadn't even scratched her.
More than that, the golden light gave off an oppressive aura. It seemed to restrain its power, dulling its elemental force.
The Auspicious Beast had noticed too. This silver wolf was strange. Fire and wind... and spiritual power? That combination was rare—almost unheard of.
She had met many multi-attribute beasts in the Star Dou Forest, but one with this kind of triple alignment? It made her think of an old legend... but she needed to be sure.
Both combatants paused briefly, analyzing, calculating. Then, in the blink of an eye, they moved again.
This time, she attacked.
Her form vanished into a blur of green-gold. The silver wolf tensed, its spiritual sense flaring wildly. It spun, eyes darting.
"Too slow."
Her voice came from above. The wolf looked up just in time to see her descending with golden dragon claws manifested around her hands—glowing with raw power and sharp enough to tear steel.
Its eyes widened. Death loomed.
Those claws... if they struck...
The silver wolf had no choice. It barked sharply, then opened its mouth wide and spat three glowing drops of blood. They shimmered in the air—and both the blood and the wolf vanished.
She struck the ground where it had stood. Missed.
She landed with a graceful crouch, golden claws slicing empty air. Her brows furrowed.
'Teleportation through blood sacrifice?'
Her spiritual sense swept the area—and there he was. Ten meters away, beneath a tree, panting.
'Found you.'
Before she could charge again, the wolf retaliated.
Three massive silver orbs formed, flying toward her like meteors.
Before they hit, they split—one into ice spikes, one into sharp earthen drills, and the third into dozens of wind blades.
The storm of ice, rock, and wind roared toward her, the wind enhancing the speed and force of the others.
She clenched her fists.
'Damn it... I can block some, but not all.'
She summoned the Golden Dragon Bodyguard again, weaving through the storm as best she could. But this time, she wasn't just blocking—she was looking for an opening.
Her eyes burned with determination.
'This little mongrel's got tricks... but I've still got plenty left too.'
