Petalburg Woods is a forest located in the Hoenn region.
It lies alongside Route 104, connecting Petalburg City and Rustboro City.
The forest is home to a large number of low-level Bug-type Pokémon, such as Wurmple.
However, it is also known to occasionally house some rare Pokémon. Some users have even reported seeing Slakoth and Shroomish in Petalburg Woods.
"Corphish, use Bubble Beam!"
"Carvanha, use Psychic Fang."
"Fearow, go up and intercept, prevent it from escaping."
From deep within the forest came the sounds of an intense battle. A Fearow broke through the trees and soared into the sky, scanning below with sharp eyes.
"Dieee~~"
A Taillow had just taken to the air and was about to breathe a sigh of relief, thinking it had finally escaped the terrifying human below.
But Fearow's sharp beak struck it fiercely, drawing blood from its wings. Even with Taillow's tenacious nature, it couldn't help but cry out in pain. Its body tilted and slowly began to fall.
"Go, Poké Ball!"
Sieg's three Pokémon approached slowly, their eyes fixed on the Poké Ball.
Once.
Twice.
Three times.
Ding!
The Poké Ball finally stopped shaking. Sieg let out a sigh of relief and stepped forward to pick it up, then took out his Pokédex to scan it.
Beep beep beep~~
"Taillow, the Tiny Swallow Pokémon. Normal/Flying type. Height: 0.3 meters. Weight: 2.5 kg. Well-developed.
Currently knows the moves: Growl, Peck, Focus Energy, Quick Attack, Supersonic."
"It boldly challenges even the strongest opponents. Has the perseverance to not give up even when it loses. Cries loudly when it's hungry."
Looking at the information displayed on the Pokédex, Sieg couldn't help but smile. "This is the fourth Taillow I've caught, and I finally found one with an inherited move. Its development isn't bad either. Should be enough to meet the mission requirements."
Sieg was currently working on a mission to catch Taillow. The mission wasn't too difficult, but it required the Taillow to have excellent attributes and an inherited move.
He had already caught three earlier, but unfortunately, none of them had inherited moves. They were all very ordinary. This one, however, had inherited Supersonic.
That's a pretty good support move. It emits a special sound wave that confuses the enemy.
"I'll use this one to complete the mission. The remaining three can be sold on the black market." Sieg placed the Poké Ball into his spatial backpack, quietly thinking.
This trip wasn't just about completing a mission for rewards and League points, but also a great opportunity to train and bond with his Pokémon.
"Cor Cor!!"
Corphish scuttled up, holding out its claws expectantly toward Sieg, as if asking for a reward.
Sieg smiled lightly. "Don't worry, you won't be left out."
He pulled out a piece of jerky from his spatial backpack, something he had bought at the market. Whatever mysterious ingredients it contained, Corphish absolutely loved it.
It was essentially a Pokémon snack.
After instructing Fearow to stand guard, Sieg began to set up camp nearby and draw a topographic map.
Even though areas like this had already been mapped out by others and wouldn't earn points when submitted, rather have something than nothing.
Besides, Sieg wanted to improve his mapping skills.
As the sun slowly set, the forest grew unusually quiet. Sieg lay in his tent, peacefully falling asleep.
He was able to sleep so soundly because his tent was extremely durable. Supposedly, it could withstand attacks from Pokémon below level 40.
While it might get damaged over time, it would buy him enough time to escape.
Truly, you get what you pay for.
Aside from being sturdy, this tent had many features like insulation, moisture-proofing, heating, and ventilation.
"Hope the mission goes smoothly tomorrow."
Sieg's consciousness gradually faded as he entered dreamland.
Elsewhere in the forest, an ugly snake-like Pokémon and a massive white feline were locked in a fierce struggle.
Hatred flared in their eyes, a natural enmity written in their genes, a blood feud passed down through generations!
Though both were covered in wounds, neither backed down. With reckless abandon, they charged at each other.
The next morning, Sieg slowly woke up.
"Good morning, everyone~"
After preparing breakfast for his Pokémon, Sieg also began eating. The meal was simple: biscuits, water, and a bottle of nutrient solution.
The nutrient solution was a hot item in the market, a must-have for adventurers. Just a small bottle could provide all the nutrition a person needed for a whole day.
The Pokémon gobbled down their food and Pokéblocks happily, getting more than enough energy to last the day.
Sieg began packing up the tent. High-tech equipment really is convenient. No complicated procedures needed, just the press of a button, and the tent would fold and retract on its own.
Before leaving, Sieg had his Pokémon use moves on the surrounding ground to erase any traces of his presence.
"Fearow, stay in the sky to scout. If there's danger, come back quickly. Try not to go too far from us," Sieg reminded sternly.
Having received the command, Fearow shot into the air and soon got out of sight.
Sieg walked slowly through the forest. At first, he could still hear cicadas and birds occasionally, but it grew quieter as he went deeper.
Sieg realized, "I must have entered the core zone of Petalburg Woods. The Pokémon here are generally stronger than those on the outskirts. I have to be careful."
This was his first true exploration adventure, so he couldn't help feeling a bit nervous. But seeing Corphish walking excitedly by his side, Sieg felt slightly reassured.
Just as Sieg was on high alert, a sharp bird cry rang out.
"That's Fearow!"
Sieg's spirits lifted, and he rushed in the direction of the sound. Sure enough, Fearow came flying back at high speed.
"Squawk!!!!"
Fearow dove down, kicking up clouds of dust. Sieg quickly asked what was going on.
"Squawk squawk squawk~~"
Fearow gestured animatedly, and Sieg more or less understood.
"You're saying there are two Pokémon up ahead fighting, and their levels are at least as high as yours?" Sieg asked.
Fearow was already level 24. Though it ranked lowest in Sieg's team, it was still a decent level.
"Even stronger than Fearow?"
Sieg pondered silently, debating whether to go check it out.
He thought to himself, "Even if those two Pokémon are high-level, they're locked in fierce combat. If I intervene now, isn't it the perfect time to reap the rewards?"
Besides, even if it doesn't work out, with the combined strength of my three Pokémon, surely we can still retreat safely?
No use in hesitating!
"Fearow, lead the way, and keep quiet. Don't alert the two battling Pokémon."
Sieg felt a surge of determination. Maybe today, he really could be the one who benefits in the end.
Pushing past layers of foliage and taking big strides to follow Fearow, Sieg gradually began to hear the sounds of an intense battle. The sounds grew louder and louder, until finally, he saw the two Pokémon clearly.
It was a Seviper and a Zangoose!
