Chapter 12 - Giant Slime

Max believed that he could find monsters easily by just walking around, however, he didn't count on the dungeon being a maze.

Again, Max had lost track of where he was and the paths he took, making it complete guesswork for him to know what to do.

He had already defeated 5 slimes, and while 3 gave him 15 Vitality in total, not one of them gave him a skill.

Max considered whether or not he should invest in luck, as he now had 10 free stat points, especially because his urgent needs for HP would be covered by killing the slimes.

Max decided to invest later, due to the non urgency of the current dungeon and the fact that the need to put points in his attributes may come later and Max didn't wish to have nothing when it's crucial.

Now, after defeating a few slimes and realising how easy it was for him, Max decided to throw caution to the wind and explore as he wished.

He used swift dash to get as far ahead as he could, looking for slimes and instantly throwing fireballs at them to destroy them.

He went deeper and deeper inside, as the slimes that he was able to kill with just 2 fireballs, now needed 3.

Max was still stuck in the delusion that dungeons were just like levelling zones, with the same monster types throughout them until he reached the boss.

Instead, the monsters in dungeons grew as he went inside, becoming stronger and stronger, with the monsters clustered more densely together until the player was overwhelmed.

But Max didn't know about any of this, ignorantly charging in without any plan.

Even though it took him some time, Max slowly realised that he would be in trouble if he kept recklessly charging in, now needing 3 fireballs to kill just 1 slime.

He suddenly stopped, taking some time to drink his MP potions. He hadn't taken any damage yet, letting him keep his HP potions for now.

He then started taking the careful approach again, disguise activated, each move with even more careful deliberation and walking like a clown.

While Max knew this would be incredibly slow, he remained steadfast in his approach, unwilling to even take a chance of dying due to stupidity.

So he ventured forward, occasionally coming across groups of slimes.

This time, instead of killing them all at once, he lured each one out and then killed them separately, the slimes too dumb to notice the strategy.

Any other monster would have likely noticed, due to their natural survival instincts, however, slimes had no natural instincts except for devouring, prompting the easy kills for him.

He had already killed more than 50 monsters and capped out his plunder ability, now having 116 Vitality and making it his highest stat.

Max could almost bet that he had one of the highest amounts of HP, even more than many top-tier tanks.

He also now had the skill bounce, another skill that was plenty useful, yet couldn't do any damage.

This realisation almost made Max cry, as he still only had one attacking method, with the rest used to either support him or hide. His main value as a mage was being overwritten, as he was now more of a support than a damage dealer, the main reason he chose the Mage class in the first place.

'Oh well. I just need to hope that I soon meet a monster with a damage type talent.'

Soon, Max stopped. He had once again found a group of slimes, approximately 6, yet for some reason, they were much bigger than the previous ones. If the ones before were as big as dogs, the ones he was looking at now were as big as lions. He checked their attributes to make sure and was amazed at what he saw.

These slimes were more than twice as strong as the normal ones and were also more perceptive, making it harder to lure them out separately.

Max knew that he would have to fight them all in one go, yet he could plan his actions out as much as he wished.

So he started laying down traps around them. He created a plan to efficiently kill them all without taking too much damage, wishing to save his potions for later, when it would be more important.

Finally, when he was amply prepared, Max shot a fireball at the furthest slime from him.

They immediately chased - or in this case - bounced towards him, trying to catch and kill him. He started running, yet as he was running, he shot fireballs again at the slime furthest from him.

After a few more fireballs, it finally died.

Max saw a notification, yet ignored it, focusing on the current task instead.

He started shooting at the next farthest slime, all while running until he reached his destination.

What he now saw was a giant canyon, and he activated bounce to jump ight over it. The slimes followed in his footsteps, and went to the other side too.

The slimes were being dealt damage as they landed, as Max undid his illusion.

Instead of a canyon that they had leapt over, it was only rocks, with a giant fire burning on their side. It was the firewall, almost identical to the one Max used against the Rat Boss.

Max was now also on the other side, as if he had never jumped.

Max's plan wasn't to finish them off while running, his stamina was much too low for that. Instead, he utilised his illusion spells and skills to make the canyon look real.

The thing that jumped over wasn't Max, but his clone, as he was safe and sound after appearing from his disguise spell.

Now, all Max had to do was shoot fireballs, and shoot he did, rapidly killing them all by combining his fireballs with a firewall.

Max received notifications that he had killed them all, as pride filled his eyes. He was about to take a rest after what seemed like an eternity when he heard a notification.
