Dinner Table
----------------
Dinner table. A single object that is in my memories from my childhood to now. Memories of not so fun lectures and scoldings from mother who had me sit down. Memories of fun holiday dinners when everyone was around to laugh, smile and eat. A place where I am surrounded by people I love. A place where I feel safe. A place that feels like home. I have learned to turn my mistakes into funny stories to share here. I learned how to communicate about my daily life here. I learned of the flavors that life had to offer here. A dinner table allows us to gather with others to converse and eat food that energizes us. To expand our horizons on different cultures, stories, food, and experiences. A dinner table is special.
I envision myself meeting new people. I am learning the untold stories, not written in books. Sometimes, I imagine myself surrounded by people with different backgrounds, ethnicity, and cultures while learning that we all have something in common, just like we all have something that separates us and defines us as individuals. Visiting to see my family, learning from them about their daily lives, and eating the natural cuisine of my mother's homeland. Traveling to see the diversity that my country offers, and to learn of the flavors each state brings forward. I aspire to broaden my horizons, to leap off the cliff of the unknown, to land in the sea of mysteries, as the Sun lights my path. I aspire to learn about the world and to not let my ignorance hold me back and blind me. I aspire to learn about the people outside of my dinner table.
Even when the clock stops, time does not. Time is a concept made by humans, so I do not wish to measure my future by how many minutes it last but by how many times I smile and laugh. May there be plenty of opportunities for me to fill my insatiable hunger to connect with others, nourish my brain with knowledge, and converse with new people of all walks of life. To join others freely on their own paths as we develop as our own people. Trying the different spices of life seeing what best fits me. Then sit with new people I have gathered that are close to me, at a table filled with smiles and laughter.
