GEORGE'S POV
I felt guilty for days that Miss stead had to stay in police custody for an entire day. Ray didn't really let her off easily, but for his personality, he did have mercy on her. He allowed her to be bailed the following day without pressing any charges against her. She even came to see me so she could apologise to me at the hospital. Then she explained to me why she reached the way she did. It was then I knew she was close to the girl Ray had hit with a car. I felt bad for her even more I thought she did not deserve getting locked up at all. So I apologized to her on behalf of Ray. I even volunteered to help her care for her friend.
So, while I was still hospitalized, I kept visiting her friends ward. And when she's not around, I would stay on her behalf watching the girl in coma. Miss Stead even introduced me to her friend. I didn't know she called me professor nonchalant like the rest students did. But it sounded cute coming from her. I knew she was already holding a very special place in my heart. Perhaps, I had fallen deeply in love with Miss Stead.
"Can I call you Kelly," I said to her the first day I visited her at the hospital from my house. I had already been discharged. I wanted to take her out, but knowing her devotion to her friend, I decided to surprise her at the hospital. I ordered for all the dishes I thought she might like, and even thought to ask her to be my girlfriend. I did ask her to be my girlfriend. She told me she was not ready. She had practically moved into the hospital to stay with her friend after weeks of no response from Mari. She did allow me to call her by her name, but she said she needed time and that her focus was on Mari. I did not quite understand her, but I knew I should wait. So I decided to wait. I would occasionally visit her at the hospital.
Kelly soon became a part of my existence, and I found myself visiting her everyday at the hospital. While I thought I loved her more for her selflessness towards her friend, I started hating her friend. I thought her to be selfish, unwilling to wake up from her deep slumber. Even Ray was concerned, the doctors said she was supposed to wake up a few days after the surgery, but she had been in coma for weeks, and weeks turned into a month and a few days. Sometimes, I would wonder if the doctors did not make any mistake. Sometimes, I would think she's dead already. While other times, I would think she was faking the whole coma thing. Still, I just had to be by Kelly's side. Aside from her African friend who visits once in a while, no other person had come to see Kelly or Mari at the hospital. Then I knew Mari probably had a pitiful life. But she was lucky to have Kelly.
I was in my car heading to the mansion after I got a call that the old man was in a critical condition but has refused to go to the hospital when I received a call. The caller sounded like she was under pressure, her voice was hushed.
"You need to come to the hospital. They are going to kill her," it was the nurse I was paying to keep me informed in case of any emergency. I did that because of Kelly. It was because I feared my grandfather might want to hurt her because he was unhappy with Ray for not punishing her. According to him, Kelly deserved to die for making an attempt on my life. But that was just how he saw it. Another person he detest was Mari. He detest her for being part of the reason the family's reputation was at stake for a whole week. He spent money taking down video clips of the accident off the internet and keeping off the press. So, naturally, I knew he would hate her even though he never mentioned. So on hearing what the nurse said, I immediately made a U-turn.
I drove the fastest I could to the hospital, whilst my heart kept racing uncontrollably. All I could pray for was not to arrive late. I immediately put Ray on dial to inform him that something was wrong at the hospital. I didn't want to be specific so I don't say the wrong things. I was hoping that if he was anywhere closer to the hospital, he would get there before me. But I got there before him.
When I got to the hospital, I rushed street to VIP ward B where Mari was because I knew Kelly would be there as well, unless the worse already happened. On getting there, what I saw left me I'm disbelief. Kelly was on the floor being held down by a male doctor. Yet the first thing she said to me was to remove the drip from Mari. I didn't think about it, I just did it. I did it despite the fact that removing the drip could endanger Mari's life. But Kelly would never hurt her friend.
I rushed to beat up the male doctor after I had removed the drip from Mari. It was at that point that the hospital's security team got in to stop me. The make doctor got up and told the security team that Kelly and I were preventing him from treating his patient. This was not my first time, and I could bet my life that this male doctor looked nothing like the doctor that have been attending to Mari. Kelly tried saying the truth but the doctor shunned her and asked the securities to drag Kelly out. She got angry and attacked one of the securities, while I took my chance with the other by grabbing his taser and using it on him till he passed out. I did same with the one Kelly was engaging. She had great fighting skills, that made me admire her.
I did not have the time to admire her though, because Mari's heart monitor suddenly went wild. I rushed out of the room to go get the doctor, luckily for me, he had already arrived. He was able to resuscitate Mari with a defibrillator. It was a relief to me when her pulse became stable. The doctor explained to me that someone had trapped him, so he could not even come attend to Mari until one of the nurses came to his office. He told us that Mari almost lost her life due to shock that she was probably aware of her environment and could sense the danger. Kelly looked frightened and requested that we move Mari to another hospital, but I knew I had to wait for Ray when I saw the text on my phone. I asked the doctor to move Mari to another ward which they did.
The doctor fixed a drip on Mari before leaving. I was left with Kelly who was all shaken up. She told me she was scared, so I tried to comfort her by giving her a hug. I held her in my arms and gently stroke her back. Then I heard Mabel's voice. Kelly jumped out of my arms and I felt it was because she was not expecting anyone else to suddenly walk in. I went to hug Mabel and grasped the look on Ray's face when I did. I wondered when he'll man up and ask Mabel out. He was obviously jealous of how close Mabel and I were. I decided to tell Ray the info I got. I showed him the text on my phone which implicated our grandfather as the one who ordered the hospital to give Mari a mercy death. Ray was infuriated by the information, he made his way out of the ward. I tried calling him back, but he walked out stubbornly. It made me wonder what he was going to do.
