Chapter 72 - Chapter 72 - Conflict

In the following days, Josh and Linden did not see Angela return to the hotel where they were staying.

Later, according to information gathered by their subordinates, Josh and Linden found out that Colonel Kennedy had specifically arranged for Angela to stay in a house in the West End of London.

During the period when the U.S. military was stationed in Britain during World War II, London's West End had completely become an area where American soldiers went for recreation.

The soldiers' area mainly consisted of Hyde Park and Piccadilly Circus. By night, the corners of these places would be filled with the scent of heather flowers, and every morning, the cleaners had to remove frames of safety helmets from these areas.

Yes...these guys were too lazy to find a proper place.

No wonder 1.8 million lives were lost.

However, high-ranking military officers like Kennedy definitely wouldn't be interested in those places. They preferred the high-end apartments.

In those apartments, a lot of women wearing luxurious fur coats were waiting for them.

Many senior American officers, in fact, openly stayed in those apartments belonging to widows or even non-widows, only returning to the barracks during the day.

Kennedy, as a colonel in the Navy, was a high-ranking officer, and arranging a residence for Angela was nothing difficult.

But for Linden, this was pure humiliation.

However, Linden was not the type to easily lose his temper. He was a seasoned veteran who had been navigating the gray areas since World War I. He knew very well that in such a special time, confronting a military officer with real power was a foolish move.

Not to mention that he was a man who walked the gray area, even his boss, Josh, who was considered a tycoon in the U.S., would find it difficult to deal with the military in Britain directly.

So without needing Josh to persuade him, Linden immediately acted as if nothing had happened, focusing on his work, helping Josh contact the local gangsters in London and sell high-end goods.

But both he and Josh knew that this matter wouldn't end that easily.

They hadn't gone looking for trouble, but that didn't mean their troubles wouldn't come to them. Specifically, trouble found Josh.

"Josh, this farewell, when we meet again, it may not be so easy," Aldo and several other officers clinked their glasses with Josh in the Rainbow Club in London's West End and drank their beers in one go.

The Rainbow Club was run by the American Red Cross and was specifically for the U.S. military. It was the base for American soldiers' recreation in London.

Not only did the club serve food all night, but it also had a large dance floor that could accommodate 1,000 couples at once.

In the movie "Captain America," this is the place where Captain America made a dance date with Peggy Carter.

Normally, non-military personnel, especially men, couldn't enter here. Only women could enter with an invitation from an American soldier.

However, Josh was a bit different. Firstly, he was American, and secondly, he worked as a supplier for the military. He was considered a semi-military person. In addition, he had also become a supplier for this club.

After all, he had a lot of valuable goods that were worth more than dollars or pounds. In the past month or so, almost all of London's upper class and high-ranking U.S. military officers knew about this influential American tycoon.

During this period, he had also run into Aldo and the other officers whom he had met on the plane.

As for Winters, who had a relatively good relationship with him, he was not there. The 101st Airborne Division was stationed far from London and rarely came.

Today, Josh was here specifically to bid farewell to these officers.

Because today was already May 28th, only a week was left before the famous Normandy landings (originally scheduled for June 5, but actually June 6).

All American soldiers had already entered a final state of readiness, and on the streets, ordinary American soldiers on leave were nowhere to be seen.

Only officers like Aldo could still be here.

But by tomorrow, they would not be able to leave the barracks either.

"Relax, buddy! The little mustache over there is finished. Our forces are several times theirs. You guys are the best. I believe you can all return triumphantly. I'm waiting to go to Paris to celebrate with you!" Josh also drank his beer in one go, then patted Aldo's shoulder and said with a smile.

"Hmph, you capitalists, all you can do is hide behind the battlefield and suck the blood of brave soldiers," at that moment, an unpleasant voice came from behind Josh and the others.

Everyone looked over and saw a colonel standing not far away. Standing beside him was Angela, who was lowering her head, not daring to look at Josh.

"This colonel, do we know each other?" Josh squinted slightly. Although he had already guessed the identity of the person, he still asked as if he didn't know.

"Joseph Kennedy! You're Josh Kane, right!" Colonel Kennedy said as he walked closer to Josh, but was blocked by Aldo, who sensed the unfriendly presence.

"What? Do you have a problem, Lieutenant?" Kennedy looked disdainfully at Aldo, who was blocking his way.

"Oh, sorry, sir. I just wanted to greet you and salute you!" Aldo gave a military salute, then said, "But I heard your tone, seems like you have a problem with the Army?"

"So what? Do you have an opinion on what I said?" Kennedy sneered.

In World War II, one of the most famous conflicts was the rivalry between the Navy and Army.

In fact, such conflicts existed in most countries, and the U.S. was no exception.

As a Navy colonel, Kennedy naturally had a prejudice against the Army, especially since Aldo was just a lowly lieutenant.

"Of course not, sir. Our Army never picks fights with fools," Aldo narrowed his eyes and responded, placing extra emphasis on the word "sir."

"...Very well, it seems you're not convinced. I never like to use ranks to oppress people. Everyone, listen, this has nothing to do with military rank..." Kennedy shoved his glass into Angela's hand, and then pointed at Josh, who had a grim expression, sitting behind Aldo.

"Joseph...don't!" Seeing this, Angela felt uneasy and was a bit scared.

"Don't worry, darling, they dare not do anything to me..." Before Kennedy could finish his sentence with a smile, Aldo's fist had already slammed into his face.

Seeing this, Josh and the other Army officers immediately felt a heavy weight in their hearts.

This was bad!

They hadn't expected Aldo to actually make a move.

Although Kennedy had said military rank didn't matter, anyone who took those words seriously was an idiot.

This wasn't just hitting a superior officer, it could easily escalate into a conflict between the Navy and the Army.

Causing trouble just before the big battle like this meant that Aldo, who had struck first, would definitely end up at a military court.

"Stop him!" Josh quickly shouted.

A single punch might still have some room for damage control but if Kennedy got seriously hurt, no one would be able to save Aldo.

Josh didn't need to shout, as other officers had already recognized the seriousness of the situation and quickly grabbed Aldo, who still wanted to continue beating Kennedy.

"Scumbag, I'm going to kill you!" Kennedy, who had been caught off guard by a punch, was naturally still unwilling to let it go. He immediately turned to return the favor to Aldo, but as soon as he swung his fist, someone grabbed him, and he couldn't move at all.

"Who is it?" Kennedy, in a fit of rage, turned around and was instantly stunned because the person holding him was of extraordinary status.

Although the person's rank was not high, Kennedy knew that he would definitely not be able to beat him.

The person's title was Captain America!
