Chapter 17 - GREED FOR MONEY

"You can't say that, Brother Nash. As long as there is a chance, even if the path is made of thorns, we should still walk," Elijah said seriously, not acting like a child.

"Brother..." Hearing Elijah, Charlotte couldn't help but be serious.

"So you plan to compete representing the Earth?" Nash asked, patting his shoulder.

For kids this age to speak such words, Nash could only wonder how much Elijah had gone through.

"Yes, if we can have some achievements in the sector-level cosmic competition, Earth would be freed from the Arlean Civilization!" Elijah said with excitement.

"Freed from the Arlean Civilization, huh?" Nash muttered, feeling emotional.

Such grand words, such grand ambition. Looking at Elijah, Nash couldn't help but be moved.

"However, before all of that, you still need to grow," Nash said, ruffling his hair.

"Brother, in two years, I will officially train on the path of transcendence. By then, I will protect you!" Elijah promised, clenching his fist.

"Me too, me too! I won't let anyone harm Brother Nash in any way!" Charlotte chimed in.

"You two…" Seeing their sincere eyes, Nash couldn't help but chuckle.

What protection? By the time they started training, he would probably be a Void Warrior or beyond.

Suppressing his thoughts, they watched another cosmic competition match, analyzing every move of the fight.

---

Seeing the twins off as their grandfather, Arthur, picked them up, Nash went back to his dedicated computer room.

With only 30k arls in his pocket, Nash was about to face a financial crisis.

Wanting to earn money, Nash went to the dark web and logged into his account.

Because he mainly searched for things on the dark web, after two months of dormancy, Nash was a little unfamiliar with the account.

"Let's see... Hmm? General Axel?"

Seeing 99+ messages from General Axel, Nash was a little curious.

[Noir 11111: Hello, what do you want?]

---

Over the past month, Axel felt like he was living in a nightmare.

Camilla had asked him to contact Noir no matter what.

However, looking at Noir's forever-offline state, what could he do?

As for asking the Blue Alliance to help him out of his predicament?

Ha! Those bastards even blamed him for being careless, letting a cargo of Void Crystals get snatched away before their eyes.

Axel could only be thankful that the Blue Alliance didn't dismiss him.

Otherwise, without the protection of this false name, Axel would probably be beaten to death.

Going home depressed from Camilla's scolding, he suddenly heard a blaring alarm inside his room.

"What is it this time?" In a daze, Axel felt a little annoyed by the sound.

"Huh? Wait, isn't this the alarm I set off once Noir replied?!"

In shock, Axel bolted forward, going to his computer.

Opening his account, he saw a highlight of Noir's message, [Noir 11111: Hello, what do you want?].

"Hahaha! I'm not dreaming! This bastard Noir is finally online!"

"God bless me! I'm finally going to get out of this nightmare!"

"Come on, Axel, you need to relax. You still need to throw that witch Camilla out of your hands."

Breathing in and breathing out, he typed a reply with trembling hands.

[General Axel 03: Hello, Noir. How are you?]

[Noir 11111: Cut the crap, tell me what you want.]

"This—" Reading Noir's reply, Axel's lips couldn't help but twitch.

Just as he wanted to quit in anger, he remembered the nightmare he was living in.

[General Axel 03: Brother, my boss wanted to talk to you. Can you take the time?]

[Noir 11111: That's it? I don't have time. If that's all, goodbye.]

[General Axel 03: No, brother! I beg of you, please take time to talk to my boss!]

[Noir 11111: 1 million. I'll take the time to chat with your boss for 1 million arls. Of course, it will be on the dark web.]

"Money again?" Axel felt speechless seeing Noir's need for money.

If he knew Noir only needed some money to agree, why would he still waste his words?

[General Axel 03: Well, a million it is. I'll transfer it to you right now.]

Axel didn't even bargain or make a deposit, but directly transferred the whole amount.

What if this Noir changed his mind?

Seeing his balance go from seven to five digits, Axel felt depressed.

This was his money!

Because of his failure a month ago, the Blue Alliance deducted his allowance.

If he wanted to use the treasury of the Blue Alliance, he needed to state his reason.

However, as a private task forced on him by Camilla, Axel can only use his money.

[Noir 11111: Tell your boss to contact me tomorrow, the same time today.]

[General Axel 03: Thank you, brother! I'll tell my boss to be punctual!]

"This should be stable..." Axel slumped to the ground, exhausted in his mind.

He could finally get out of this nightmare.

The leisurely life of his dream was about to be fulfilled.

---

Meanwhile, seeing the balance in his account return to a million arls, Nash couldn't help but smile.

"There are still plenty of good people in this world after all~."

Initially, Nash planned to look for some easy tasks until he could buy a low-grade healing potion.

Even if he only used one arm to work, he should be able to accumulate 100k arls in over a week.

Now it was directly solved just by chatting with someone.

In a good mood, Nash browsed the dark web, looking for news around Landon City.

[Wanted Order: Noir 11111

A novice programmer who forged multiple identifications....]

Reading his wanted order, Noir couldn't help but be shocked.

"Someone was coming for me?!"

Looking at the details, it seemed the Landon City officials were hot on his heels.

"Is it the accident over a month ago?" Noir concluded. This is his only interaction with the city officials.

"Fortunately, I already cleared my traces..."

After forging an identity, Nash felt it wasn't safe and asked for a referee.

Arthur, the grandfather of Elijah and Charlotte, was the only one he could ask.

After knowing he came from the slums and didn't have any identity, Arthur didn't despise him.

With quick action, Arthur immediately applied a first-level identification card that could be unhindered anywhere on Earth.

Thinking of this, he wasn't worried that someone would connect his current identity with some mysterious hacker.

Nash also erased his traces in the digital hub, deleting anything that could lead to suspicion.

Without worrying about anything, Nash continued to browse the dark web.
