Chapter 2 - Madam Packed Up and Went Back to the Country

At around nine o'clock in the evening, Feng Ting Shen and his wife returned home. Feng Jingxin held onto the hem of Feng Ting Shen's coat, her movements slow as she got out of the car.

She didn't want to return home tonight because her mother was here. But Aunt Wuwu said her mother came especially to spend time with her and her father, and if they didn't go back, her mother would be upset. Her father also mentioned that if they didn't return tonight, her mother would definitely insist on going out to sea with them tomorrow. She had no choice but to agree to come back.

However, she still felt a bit uneasy and muttered, "Dad, what if Mom insists on coming out with us tomorrow?"

"It won't happen," Feng Ting Shen replied firmly.

Over the years of their marriage, although Rong Ci often tried to find ways to spend more time with him, she was still reasonable. As long as he made his stance clear, she would never dare to upset him. In Feng Jingxin's memory, Rong Ci had always been very obedient to Feng Ting Shen. Since he said it won't happen, it definitely won't.

Feng Jingxin finally felt at ease. Her mood improved, and she stopped feeling troubled. She happily skipped inside, telling Aunt Liu that she was going to take a bath.

"Okay, okay," Aunt Liu responded, remembering what Rong Ci had told her. She handed an envelope to Feng Ting Shen. "Sir, this is something Madam asked me to give you."

Feng Ting Shen took it and casually asked, "Where is she?"

"Uh... Madam packed up and went back to the country this afternoon. Didn't you know?"

Feng Ting Shen paused in his steps as he went upstairs, turning his head back. "She went back?"

"Yes."

Why did Rong Ci suddenly go to Country A? Feng Ting Shen didn't give Rong Ci the chance to explain.

He didn't care.

Even after learning that she had left, he didn't feel relieved.

Feng Jingxin was also a bit surprised. When she heard the news, a small sense of disappointment stirred in her heart. She had been thinking that if her mom didn't follow her and her dad on the overseas trip tomorrow, it would actually be nice to have her mom keep her company tonight. Besides, her hands hurt easily when she was polishing the shell, and she had wanted her mom to help her finish it!

It had been months since Feng Ting Shen and Rong Ci had seen each other. Rong Ci had finally come over for a visit, yet she hadn't even seen Feng Ting Shen's shadow. Thinking about how Rong Ci looked when she left, her face didn't seem to be in a good mood, Aunt Liu couldn't help but remind him, "Sir, when Madam left, her expression didn't seem right. She looked a little upset."

Aunt Liu had originally thought that Rong Ci was in a rush to return to the country because of urgent matters. But now that she realized Feng Ting Shen hadn't even known that Rong Ci had gone back, she sensed something was off.

Upset?

In his presence, Rong Ci was always gentle and accommodating.

So, she could get upset too? That was something new.

Feng Ting Shen let out a slight, indifferent laugh and casually brushed off Aunt Liu's comment before heading upstairs.

When he returned to his room, just as he was about to open the letter that Rong Ci had sent him, his phone rang with a call from Lin Wu. After picking up the call, Feng Ting Shen tossed the envelope aside and walked out of the room.

A while later, the envelope fell to the floor from the bedside.

That evening, Feng Ting Shen didn't return home.

The next day, when Aunt Liu came upstairs to clean, she saw the envelope on the floor and recognized it as the one Rong Ci had asked her to give Feng Ting Shen the previous day.

She thought Feng Ting Shen must have already seen it, so she casually placed it in a nearby cabinet.

...

After Rong Ci got off the plane and returned home, she went straight upstairs to tidy up her luggage. After all, it had been six years, and there were still quite a few of her belongings in the house.

But she only took a few pieces of clothing, two sets of everyday items, and some of her professional books.

After their marriage, Feng Ting Shen would give her and their daughter an allowance every month. He transferred the money to two cards. One card was for her, and the other was for their daughter.

However, Rong Ci had gotten used to using her own card for her expenses. She never touched her daughter's card, not even once. Moreover, she loved Feng Ting Shen. Every time she went shopping and saw clothes, shoes, cufflinks, or ties that suited him, she couldn't help but buy them for him.

As for herself, due to her work, her daily expenses weren't high. She was always thinking of her husband and daughter, wanting to give them the best of everything. So, most of the living allowance Feng Ting Shen gave her was spent on them.

Given the situation, there shouldn't be much money left on the cards now. However, over the past year, since their daughter had mostly stayed with Feng Ting Shen in Country A, she had had fewer opportunities to buy things for them. The cards still had over thirty million left.

Feng Ting Shen wouldn't care about this amount, but to her, it was not an insignificant sum. Since the money belonged to her in the first place, Rong Ci didn't hesitate and transferred it away. She left the two cards behind, dragged her luggage, and left without looking back.

She had a small apartment near her office, not far from where she worked. It wasn't large, just a little over a hundred square meters. Four years ago, she bought it to help a friend with their performance after leaving the company, but she had never lived there before. Now, it was finally of use.

The apartment was cleaned regularly, so it wasn't dirty. After a simple tidying up, it was ready to move in.

After a long, tiring day, Rong Ci washed up and returned to her room to rest around ten at night.

"Ding ding, ding ding, ding ding——"

The sharp sound of an alarm clock went off, waking Rong Ci from her sleep.

Suddenly awakened, her mind was blank for a moment.

Once her mind cleared, Rong Ci suddenly remembered that it was 1 AM, which meant it was already around 7 AM in Country A, where Feng Ting Shen and their daughter were. Feng Ting Shen and their daughter usually had breakfast around this time.

Since their daughter had gone to Country A with Feng Ting Shen, she would usually call her daughter at this time. However, she had gotten used to working long hours and going to bed early, so to avoid missing her daughter's call, she set this alarm.

At first, when their daughter moved to Country A, she wasn't used to it and missed her a lot. She always wanted to call her. But as time went on, her daughter's initial attachment and longing turned into indifference and impatience during their calls.

The alarm, in fact, had long lost its necessity. It was just that she couldn't bring herself to delete it.

Thinking of this, Rong Ci smiled bitterly.

After hesitating for a moment, she deleted the alarm and turned off her phone, going to sleep.

On the other side, Feng Ting Shen and Feng Jingxin had almost finished their breakfast.

Although Feng Ting Shen knew that Rong Ci usually called their daughter at this time, he wasn't home every day, so he didn't pay much attention to it.

Today, when Rong Ci didn't call, he noticed, but didn't mind. After finishing breakfast, he went upstairs to change clothes.

Feng Jingxin thought that her mother had become more and more talkative and didn't enjoy chatting with her on the phone as much anymore.

Seeing that her mother hadn't called yet despite it being so late, she thought maybe something had delayed her.

Her dark eyes turned quickly, and she grabbed her backpack, running out the door.

Aunt Liu saw this and quickly followed, "Miss, it's still early. You can leave a little later!"

Feng Jingxin didn't listen and happily ran toward the car.

It was rare for her mother to have something come up and miss her usual call.

If she didn't leave now, when her mother called later, she would have to talk to her again—and she didn't want that!

After their marriage, Rong Ci joined the Feng family group.

She initially joined the Feng family group for Feng Ting Shen. But now, since they were getting divorced, she no longer had any reason to stay at the company.

The next morning, after arriving at work, Rong Ci handed her resignation letter to Jiang Zhe.
