Chapter 3 - The judgment

A freezing, leaden-grey sky, Carmen waited for the judgment to begin

She knew... she knew this was the beginning of a long and painful battle against justice. As soon as she walked through the front door, a cold breath crossed her face. The tension in the room had become heavy. At that moment, she felt a threatening gaze. She turned and met her husband's gaze. He looked at her with indifference, but behind that gaze was something else. He looked at her with a look hungry for love.

He was in uniform, his hands were tied, he was standing, the military judges were assisting him in the line, the judge stood up

"I find you guilty of corruption," he said in a neutral voice.

The hearing is adjourned. The judges rise in turn, their gaze inevitably fixed. Brynjar is slowly led out of the room. Carmen places her hand on the balustrade. He disappears behind the stone columns.

She held tightly to the letter from her beloved, tears welling up in her eyes, she felt empty, far from the person who brought her love and lit up her life like a firefly.

To Carmen,

My heart rings like this and the sun and the moon illuminate

day and night sound like the love I feel

So my soul free and intoxicated

Will fly like a butterfly in the breeze

And carried by love for my beloved

She started running with all her might, not knowing if it would be the last time, she wanted him to know that she would love him all his life despite everything.

Brynjar BRYNJAR she shouted at the top of her lungs

I love you my love I will love you all my life I want that when you close your eyes you remember me, everything, my love I promise you that I will get you out of there even if I have to turn everyone against me by screaming at the top of my lungs before collapsing on the floor

No, this can't happen, I would never let anyone separate us, no, never, she knew that if she didn't intervene, her husband would be executed, but where to find help, she thought for a moment, then remembered her old childhood friend.

As the guards led me away, every step I took was like a blade piercing my heart. Every sound that came out of my wife's mouth was like the flames of hell consuming me, never to be extinguished.

I'd like to tell her I love you, but it was probably too late. I was too far gone. Maybe I was too cowardly after all. I hope that when I open my eyes again, I'll be close to my beloved, far from everything, just her and me.
