Chapter 6 - Cliffhanger

"What are you talking about? How would you come to that conclusion?" Miss Maria asked with a look of puzzlement on her face.

Noticing this David's face grew even more confused as he began to lose the understanding of the situation, but managed in the end to keep his thought process stable.

'I shouldn't be surprised so easily. I am a superhuman. A Beyonder.'

Mister Settler also noticed this, but his expression grew grim instead of confused. He looked at the stone again. He still didn't really seem relaxed. The exact opposite showed on his face and he appeared to have realized something.

"If what you said isn't true, then we everything would be fine, but if it is true that this stone is indeed a Beyonder Characteristic, then we just got a big problem and that you have some kind of feeling that it is a Beyonder Characteristic doesn't make it better at all. Quite the opposite." Mister Settler said in a calm voice, but his body language spoke something entirely else. It was nervous and he put his hands downwards on the table, while standing up. The smile on his face long gone. He was ready to take action immediately.

"Why do you think that?" Miss Maria stared at him like he had gone crazy. Her facial expression mimicked David's-

"Not everything that is supernatural wants to be touched and scientifically studied, Maria... My appraisal ability only works on some things, which have lower or the same 'authority' than me. Meaning this Beyonder Characteristic is either from a very high Sequence, at least Demi-god level, or is corrupted by some evil being. Whatever it is, it isn't wise to stay here for any longer. RUN." Mister Settler's voice became increasingly louder and faster as he spoke. There were some drops of sweat on his neck, which David noticed only now.

'What does that mean corrupted? Demi-god level? What problem could there be with a corrupted Beyonder Characteristic?' David wondered, but what happened exceeded his worst imagination.

'Could I have some connection to that evil being, which has corrupted this Beyonder Characteristic? After all, I felt some weird connection to it.' David speculated, while still cowering on the chair.

The arm with which Mr. Settler held the stone earlier, started to turn slightly black at his fingertips. Miss Maria hastily looked at her bag in surprise which had turned black entirely and she almost immediately jumped away from it. Mister Settler reacted very fast.

Even though David could see the fear in Mister Settler's eyes, he didn't seem to lose his composure as the black fluid, which was in his finger, suddenly surged upwards in Mister Settler's arm, who immediately grabbed the upper part of his arm and... ripped it out of his body.

Miss Mary screamed as the bag on the table suddenly shot in her direction. The bag emanated a black aura as it flew in her direction, aiming for her head.

But before it hit her, Mister Settler, who just had one arm left, he had already jumped over the wooden table and kicked the black bag to the other side of the room.

Though what David didn't expect was that the arm, Mr. Settler removed from himself began walking and formed itself into a dark monster-like creature.

It was a strange transformation. Not something you want to see happening. Bloody. Intestines and other things, which David didn't exactly know the name of, but assumed it was part of the digestion

The monster had a big mouth in the middle of its face with many sharp-looking teeth.

'What the f**k is that?' David spoke in fear as he looked at it. The rest of its body was as dark as the night.

'Where do even the teeth come from? How can they grow from nothing? Should I question this?' David looked at the scene unfolding in front of his eyes and couldn't believe them.

'Is it really that good to become a Beyonder? There are these things and possibly more?' David wondered.

The world around him turned more and more blurry. He just managed to see Mister Settler and Miss Maria run out of the room.

His view on the scene suddenly broke off like the screen is missing some battery.

After some moments of realization about what he had dreamed, David looked up in his bed in absolute terror. The terror of not knowing how the movie continues.

'Did Mister Settler and Miss Maria survive that monster or will I find their bodies when I go to the Sparebeer bar today?' David contemplated, but he didn't come to a conclusion.

'Who says they will even have bodies left at all? And do I actually have a connection to an evil being? Will it also hunt me?' Unable to find any answers, David rolled himself around in his bed many times, but all that didn't make it better.

It only helped him to calm down as he noticed the sun already being quite high for the morning. David wondered how long he slept, but he felt like didn't sleep at all.

'Did I get robbed of my sleep? Definitely.' Yawning loudly, David forced himself out of the bed and went to the bathroom.

The bathroom had white tiles on the ground, which he really liked, because of its cleanliness.

'Whoever invented that for this era, was definitely a genius. Praise that person for being a mind someone who has a good futuristic mind. And whoever thought about warm water being a good thing for the year 1349, praise to that person too.' David comforted himself as he took a thorough shower with some soap.

After showering, he got the towel from the cupboard and looked into the mirror. Facing him was white-haired youth with fair skin.

"You look very handsome, you know that? Why did you kill yourself? Could it have been due to the corruption of the Beyonder Characteristic, which you consumed?" David asked himself in the mirror, his voice almost silent in the end.

"David, are you lonely? Should I get you a girlfriend to talk with you, so you don't need to tell yourself you are beautiful?" David's body froze the moment, he heard the maliscious voice of his 'best' and 'only' friend outside the bathroom.

"Shut up, man, that hurts. Do you have no room for my feelings?" David called back and opened the door.

'Did he only hear the first part of what I've been saying or also the last one?' David thought while looking at his friend's face, who waited outside.

"Don't use too much hot water. It is expensive and you lost your job last week. Get a new one, but we can talk about that later. Now, I want to shower." Theo said in a clear, but also strict tone, which left no further room for discussions.
