Chapter 5 - The Artisan

'So, whatever happened to that Beyonder Characteristic I would first have to find its new location. If it is still with that woman, Maria or with Mr. Settler who probably will make it into a Beyonder Item, is still unclear. Let's just look further into this situation and then evaluate.'

"Now, come in and show me that Beyonder Characteristic, you wanted me to see." The voice of Mr. Settler echoed through the empty corridor of the first level of the bar, which was filled with many small rooms.

Miss Maria didn't hesitate to go in as Mr. Settler opened the wooden door for her. David followed her like a shadow stuck to her shoes. Absolutely not wanting to lose sight of her.

Mr. Settler, a quite normal looking man wearing a pair of glasses with a white shirt and long black pants, gave off quite much scholarly air. He looked like someone who could explain you that a superposition is naturally following an easy structure with a much easier concept behind it and you would in the end only understand that he knows what he is talking about, but never what he was actually trying to explain to you.

"I suppose the Beyonder Characteristic you want to be turned into a Sealed Artifact is in that bag you have with you. Right?"

Mister Settler wore a gentle smile as he sat himself at the table in the middle of the room. The room had very impressive lighting. The entire living room was without a single shadowy spot to hide in.

'Has he some kind of fear of shadows? I wouldn't know why. Or maybe it is some kind of requirement for his powers to work? If I knew that.'

Artisans are the Sequence 6 of the Savant-pathway and have the ability to craft Sealed Artifacts out of Beyonder Characteristics. Their ability shouldn't be affected by the light in the room.

'Wow, whoever told the old David so much information about Beyonders must be some kind of powerhouse. I should be lucky to benefit from this knowledge.' David smiled cheekily while looking at the situation before him and accepting the strong headache to which he already is accustomed with a forced smile on his face. The smile helped him focus less on the pain and more on the situation.

"Yes, this is indeed the one. I think it is quite strong, but it is just a feeling. For me, who isn't even a Beyonder, it is almost impossible to measure." Maria retorted slightly leaned back on the chair she sat on, looking like she wants to stretch her back.

The way she leaned back against the chair with her arms stretched away from her body as if she wanted to make an extremely long yawn was probably purposefully seductive, David guessed, but didn't confirm anything too early.

'What is the relationship between the two? Either she likes him very much or is just wanting to use him by selling her body? Symbiotic or Parasitic?' David pondered while sitting on an imaginary chair between them since he can't push or be pushed.

'Being immaterial has its advantages and disadvantages.' David looked at himself and found himself wearing the same things he wore before he went to bed.

He began analyzing their faces. 'Miss Maria's face looks like she has a very strong infatuation with Mr. Settler, but I can't read anything of that sort in Mister Settler's face. His face is gently smiling, but it is weird. It seems stiff as if he has been doing that for a long time already.'

Finding the situation a bit bizarre, David also leaned back and watched the exchange as Miss Maria grabbed into the brown bag and pulled out a black stone.

The brown bag looked old and maybe had some tine materials in it as some points began shining in the lights of the room, they were in.

Again David felt in a way, he can't really describe, drawn to the Beyonder Characteristic.

"This looks promising. From where did you get it from?" Mister Settler's face showed a hint of curiosity and Maria put it on the middle of the table.

The table wasn't made out of Donningsman this time, it was a bit brighter and had a slight bronze gleam to it. Such tables are expensive on the market, but due to this one not having any carvings or markings, it likely went a bit cheaper.

The name of the wood wasn't known to David and he also didn't really care currently as the interaction between the artisan and his admirer is going into the second round it seems.

She hadn't directly answered the question of Mr. Settler, but he seemed to insist on knowing it, therefore they were in a tactical stalemate. While he rejects her very clear flirting, she rejects his tries to keep it professional.

'He almost seems to lose his composure, but he can still keep it within limits.' David continued to analyze the entire situation in boredom as almost no progress was visible in their hefty discussion.

The Beyonder characteristic, which had some connection to David, was a black stone with white edges. The edges shone in the bright lights some times, but nothin else was really eye-catching for David.

Apparently, having come to a satisfactory conclusion to whatever they discussed, Mr. Settler took the Beyonder Characteristic into his hand and started looking at it intensely.

It kinda reminded David of himself learning for math exams one day before it began. 'You just hope everything goes well and focus as much as possible to get all that amount of information into your head.'

However after some seconds the artisan shook his head and gave the stone back to her. He looked into her eyes and asked with a serious tone. 'What is your real business here?'

Miss Maria looking at him with a confused gaze, made a questioning facial expression, which could also be interpreted as an octopod's war cry.

'What is going on? I don't understand the situation anymore. Did Miss Maria actually have an ulterior motive by going here?'

(A/N: That was easily full eight hours thinking about what to write next, actually writing it next, revising old texts, which weren't accurate enough and revising of everything else. Have a good night, or whatever time you are currently reading this.)
