Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: System

With a thought, the previous page reappeared before her:

Beautiful Girl Masquerade System at Your Service

Host: Mu Heng

Current Identity: Robin

Current Objective: Songstress (0.00%)

Then, Mu Heng realized there was nothing else. No detailed attributes like strength, agility, or intelligence. No daily sign-in, no in-game store, no missions. Most crucially, the system didn't even speak!

High EQ: The UI is remarkably minimalist and intuitive.

Low EQ: How could this trash system be so barebones?

However, behind the words "Beautiful Girl Masquerade System at Your Service," Mu Heng noticed a small question mark. When she clicked on it, a brand-new page flooded with information, dense text filling the screen.

It was like a product's user manual. With nothing else to do, Mu Heng began carefully reading it line by line.

As its name suggested, the system's primary function was to grant the host "Beautiful Girl Identities." Unsurprisingly, the first identity Mu Heng obtained was Robin, the Cosmic Songstress from Star Rail.

It's worth noting that this is an Alternative Identity System, not a Roleplay System. Most Roleplay Systems require the host to act as convincingly as possible like the character they're impersonating, unlocking more abilities the more accurately they portray the character.

But this Alternative Identity System is different. The instructions clearly state that drawing an identity grants the complete version immediately, with no need for the host to deliberately roleplay or unlock abilities.

In other words, if Mu Heng drew Finality Kiana's identity, she would instantly possess all of Finality's authority, her combat power would be maxed out, and she would immediately enter god mode.

However, the system only provides the physical identity—the body—not the memories. For example, even though Mu Heng now looks like Robin, she can't sing a single song.

It's like a frail ordinary person swapping bodies with a muscular martial arts master. Would the ordinary person suddenly gain all the master's skills? Of course not. But with the master's powerful physique and some residual muscle memory, their combat ability would undoubtedly be far superior to their original frail form—but only to that extent.

Returning to her earlier hypothetical scenario, if Mu Heng were to draw Finality Kiana, her physical combat capabilities would be limitless. However, she would undoubtedly need time to adapt and train to fully utilize them.

Although this System lacked a mission module, it did feature a "Goal" module, currently displaying "Songstress (0.00%)." To unlock her next Identity, Mu Heng would need to fulfill this objective.

The specific requirements for this goal would vary depending on her current Identity, but the term "Songstress" clearly implied that she needed to sing. It seemed likely that the more she sang, the greater her fame and fanbase grew, and the closer she would be to completing the goal.

This comprised the System's fundamental framework. As Mu Heng scrolled to the very end of the explanation, her eyes suddenly widened.

The final lines clearly stated:

This System is bound to the soul and body of Mu Heng. This product is the Host's private possession, cannot be traded, and cannot be discarded. The System will cease to exist upon the Host's death.

Note: The System retains final interpretive authority.

This was a classic System manual ending, but the real shocker was the clear statement that the System Binder was Mu Heng herself, body and soul. In other words, she hadn't undergone soul transmigration; she had physically transmigrated into this world.

She wasn't Qin Chuming; she was simply herself.

Mu Heng shuddered, a sudden chill running down her spine. She recalled the evacuation of her neighborhood, where all civilians had been accounted for except Qin Chuming. When the Bureau of Anomalous Investigations searched his apartment, they found Mu Heng and naturally assumed she was him.

But that raised a critical question: Where was the real Qin Chuming?

And then another problem surfaced. During her initial identity registration, Mu Heng had believed she was Qin Chuming, and Zhong Wanhong had also assumed the same. That's how her identity had been officially recorded.

But what if the real Qin Chuming suddenly appeared? Her cover would be blown instantly. She'd become an undocumented person, and one who had deceived the Bureau of Anomalous Investigations—a scenario that sounded disastrous!

Should she clasp her hands and pray for Qin Chuming to kick the bucket? That seemed too inhumane. After all, Mu Heng was the one impersonating him in the first place.

Let's rewind a bit. Just as Mu Heng left the interrogation room, Zhong Wanhong emerged, clutching his newly filled notebook.

A uniformed colleague approached him casually. "Captain, looks like we got lucky this time. No disaster, and we even found an ability user—and a stunning one at that..."

Before the colleague could finish, Zhong Wanhong interjected coldly, "She's not Qin Chuming."

"Huh?" the colleague stammered.

Zhong Wanhong's notebook was crammed with dense handwriting. Though he had only asked two questions, he had recorded far more than just two answers.

The interrogation might have appeared to last only a few minutes inside the interrogation room, but in reality, it had begun the moment Zhong Wanhong first saw Mu Heng.

"If a man suddenly turned into a woman," Zhong Wanhong explained, "it would be natural to try to conceal his identity. But when I first addressed her as Qin Chuming, her reaction wasn't evasiveness—it was genuine confusion. She had no idea who Qin Chuming even was."

"When she left the bedroom, she first scanned her surroundings before heading for the door, which proved she wasn't familiar with the house. Moreover, she didn't change her shoes; if they were her own, she wouldn't have hesitated to wear them, even if they were dirty or worn."

"Later, I deliberately shared some well-known information about Dimensional Rifts with her. She listened intently to everything. Of course, that wasn't the main point. The most important thing was that her personality completely contradicted what was written in Qin Chuming's file."

"So she's not a Transformer. To be precise, she's an Outsider."

"However," Zhong Wanhong's tone shifted, "at least for now, she doesn't seem hostile. It's highly unlikely she'll become an enemy."
