"How could you, a mere omega, be my mate?"
Rowan's words cut through the air like a blade, his voice laced with anger. For him, Elara was nothing but a lowly trash. He never expected that the moon goddess would give him a small, weak, low rank mate. It was an insult to his so-called pride.
Elara stood frozen, the weight of Rowan's words pressing down on her chest, suffocating her. Every inch of her body trembled, not from fear, but from the crushing blow to her spirit.
She had known rejection, but this? This was something worse. It wasn't just his words but it was the way he actually looked at her, nothing more than a speck of dirt under his boots.
A mere omega!
"I deserve more than this. Someone powerful and worthy of my time. Not you."
Rowan's lips curled into a sneer, the muscles in his jaw tightening with the weight of his anger. The moon goddess has played a cruel trick on him. How could fate bind him, the Alpha of Green moon pack, to someone so insignificant? To an omega, of all things?
He took a step closer, and grabbed her neck pushing her to the wall. As if he could erase her existence with just his gaze.
Elara gasped for air as Rowan's grip tightened around her neck, her vision blurred and pulse pounding in her ears. The pressure in her throat was unbearable. Her legs trembled beneath her as her body fought to stay upright.
"You think you can humiliate me just because I'm an omega?" her voice came out hoarse and shaky.
Rowan's eyes darkened with amusement, the sneer that curled on his lips sent a chill down her spine. "You are nothing but a pathetic creature." He spat, squeezed harder, digging his nails on her skin. "What do you think, how should I torture you?"
Elara couldn't hold it anymore, a scream escaped from her lips. Rowan seemed to revel in her suffering.
"You scream like a weak little thing." Rowan murmured. "Does it hurt Elara? Does it make you feel small?"
"It does hurt a lot but not as much as you will get humiliated after killing your destined mate in front of your people."
Rowan's brain froze for a split second. His grip could have tightened even more at the mention of his destined mate but his hands wouldn't let him.
Elara's words hit him. His head whipped around, scanning through the hall. It was the birthday party of Beta David's daughter, witch Diana.
They were not alone!
Everyone was looking at them and whispering about the scene.
Rowan Kael, cares nothing but about his face. He always acts like a righteous, kind and good person who has no intention of harming others.
Everyone was stunned and was thinking how could he?
Like seriously? How could he do that to his 'Destined Mate'?
Rowan's grip loosened, Elara moved away from him, gasping for air. Her lungs could have stopped. No one actually dared to stop the alpha but watch the show while eating popcorn.
The whisper around them is growing louder.
But then,
"Enough."
A sharp voice cut through the air. The crowd parted as a tall, broad-shouldered man stepped forward. Beta David. His usually calm eyes are burning with rage.
"Alpha Rowan, have you lost your mind? You just attacked your destined mate in front of the entire pack."
"Stay out of this, Beta David." Rowan's Jaw clenched.
However, David took another step forward, standing between Elara and Rowan. "An alpha who loses control so easily? Who disrespected the mate the moon goddess chose for him?" David's as cold as ice. "You disgrace your own leadership."
"Are you questioning my authority?" Rowan's hands curled into fists.
"No, I don't dare. However, I am questioning your judgement. I am questioning myself if I did mistake training you as your father told me to do so."
"I watched you grow up, but now, I wonder, did I waste my efforts on a boy too blinded by his own arrogance?"
No one dares to interrupt, and watch the show. Rowan's pride was legendary, but no one had ever spoken to him like this before.
"You forget your place." Rowan said sternly.
"And you forgot what it means to be an alpha." he took a step closer, "And right now, all I see is a reckless pup throwing a tantrum because he didn't get what he wanted."
Rowan's nostrils flared, "You dare….."
"I dare." David snapped back coldly, "Because I swore an oath to this pack. And if our alpha is a man who chokes his own mate in a room full of witnesses, then tell me Rowan, what kind of leader does that make you?"
The weight of his words crushed Rowan's a bit. He is already feeling guilty and angry at himself for losing face. He greeted his teeth, but before he could take any action,
"Daddy, please stop."
Diana.
She pushed through the crowd, her dark blue gown flowing like crystal water as she stepped between them. She holds David's hand tightly. "Sister will understand." she said, "please, don't make it worse."
What? Sister?
Everyone knows that David Blackthorn has two daughters but they never saw the first one. So, it was her? Elara Blackthorn.
David's rage didn't fade but his grip tightened. His jaw clenched, but he didn't speak.
Diana turned to Rowan, her voice soft like pudding. "You were just angry, weren't you? You didn't mean it."
Elara let out a hoarse bitter laugh, "Didn't mean it?" She locked her eyes with Diana. "You're defending him? Even after witnessing what he did to me?"
"No, Eli, you've misunderstood. I didn't mean to defend him but…."
"But what?"
"But it's my birthday and it's ruined. I don't want any dramas on my birthday. That's all." Diana hesitated before sighing.
David took a deep breath, "Diana, that's not the real reason." He said cutting through her weak excuse. "All I want is clarity. If Rowan wants to reject your sister then let him do that right now, in front of everyone."
"But daddy…" David silenced her with a sharp gaze and she looked down.
"Now, Alpha Rowan, please make it clear to us. Reject her or keep her. The decision is yours."
Rowan shrinked his eyes, given his nature, he probably wouldn't reject his mate in front of everyone. That was before but now? His true nature is exposed!
But there's a reason he couldn't bring himself to say those three words. He took a few seconds to think and an evil smirk stretched across his rosy lips. His devilish smile gave shivers down Elara's spine.
Not good, he's definitely plotting something worse!
"How dare you command me to reject my mate?"
