Chapter 11 - Chapter 11: The Gears of Fate Begin to Turn, Gwen's Abnormality

John's mouth twitched wildly.

Here I am in a hail of bullets up front, while you're looting gold coins behind me.

Is there any humanity left?

But remembering that he was the one who didn't let Leo intervene, John felt another wave of chest tightness and shortness of breath.

Forget it, he couldn't take that money anyway, so it was better to benefit one of his own.

Seeing John nod, Leo was overjoyed and asked him to wait a moment.

He teleported to his home, put down the sack, grabbed a bigger one, and reappeared in front of John.

The entire process took less than three seconds.

John looked at Leo enviously—people with special abilities were bug-like existences.

Just this ghostly ability alone was enough for Leo to secure his position as the assassin king.

Not to mention, he had even more terrifying combat power.

How were ordinary people like him who played with guns supposed to survive?

Shaking his head, John stopped thinking about such things. The most important thing now was to find Viggo.

Kill his son to avenge his dog.

He set fire to the remaining items, which included not only shady account books but also bribery evidence that could threaten congressmen.

These things were Viggo's lifeline.

After doing all this, John somehow acquired a car and brought Leo to Brooklyn.

"Three people on the roof, two in the garage, two at the front door, and three more snipers on the opposite rooftop."

"As for inside the house, several people are gathered together—Viggo should be among them."

Leo hadn't seen Viggo before and didn't remember his ki signature, so he could only tell John this much.

"Thanks."

John nodded, parked the car in a safe location, checked his equipment, and snuck forward like a ghost.

With Leo's intel, John infiltrated the villa with almost no effort.

Meanwhile, Viggo had just received news that his secret base had been destroyed. He was about to settle accounts with John when John came knocking.

After some negotiation, John got his son's location.

"I won't go with you—the rest are just small fry."

Leo said.

John looked at the villa, hesitated for a moment, then nodded.

"I understand."

Viggo was his former boss. Out of respect for their past relationship, John wouldn't kill him, but Leo had no such qualms.

Smiling, Leo waved goodbye to John as he drove away, then returned to the villa.

Half an hour later.

Carrying his day's haul, Leo once again arrived at the Continental Hotel.

"Charon, process these—convert everything to US dollars and transfer to my account. Don't skim too much, or I'll complain to your boss."

In America, you could mess with the CIA, FBI, even S.H.I.E.L.D., but you absolutely couldn't mess with the IRS.

Even money earned from robbery had to be taxed.

Though it pained Leo greatly, he still had to honestly launder it once to avoid future troubles.

But this also had benefits—once taxes were paid, it became legitimate income.

Looking at the several sacks of cash and jewelry on the ground, Charon remained unusually calm, having employees carry them away while smiling at Leo:

"It will take approximately three to five business days. Rest assured, Mr. Tao Pai Pai, the hotel will select the optimal method to transfer to your account."

"Twenty percent. If the loss exceeds twenty percent, I'll immediately complain to Winston about you." Leo held up two fingers seriously.

"Mr. Tao Pai Pai, this..." Charon's smile turned bitter.

Generally, money laundering plus taxes resulted in at least forty percent losses. Leo was cutting that in half right off the bat.

If they took this business, the Continental Hotel wouldn't just make no profit—they might even lose money.

Helplessly, he had to consult his boss first.

After listening, Winston was silent for two seconds before saying:

"Agree to it."

Oscorp Industries.

Gwen's condition wasn't very good at the moment. When she killed the spider this morning, she had also been bitten.

Her fair palm now had a small wound that was beginning to turn red and swell, just like a mosquito bite.

If that were all, it would be fine, but starting earlier, Gwen felt her head was a bit dizzy, her senses had become extremely acute, and she could hear all sorts of noisy sounds very clearly.

After seeing off the last visitor, Gwen struggled through her discomfort to say goodbye to Dr. Connors, then hurriedly left.

When she got home, she lay in bed covered in sweat. When Helen returned from grocery shopping and saw her daughter's condition, she was startled.

She immediately wanted to take her to the hospital.

"Mom, I'm fine. Maybe I caught a little cold. Let me sleep it off."

Gwen insisted. She really disliked the hospital atmosphere.

Seeing her daughter's insistence, Helen didn't force the issue. She took out some fever medicine from home, fed it to Gwen, then let her rest properly.

If she wasn't better by evening, they would have to go to the hospital.

Gently closing Gwen's bedroom door, Helen thought for a moment, then called Leo.

"Leo? Gwen isn't feeling well. If you're free, could you come see her?"

How did Gwen get a fever?

After receiving the call, Leo's expression was somewhat puzzled.

She had been full of energy during their video call this morning—how did she develop a fever just a few hours later?

He had just left the Continental Hotel. After hanging up Helen's call, he didn't dare delay and rushed to the apartment building where Gwen's family lived as fast as possible.

"Leo, how did you get here so quickly?"

Seeing Leo at their door in just a few minutes, Helen was quite surprised.

"I was just coming to see Gwen, and I happened to be downstairs, Aunt Helen."

"I see." Helen didn't think much of it, stepping aside to let Leo in. "Gwen just took fever medicine and probably hasn't fallen asleep yet. Go see her."

"I understand, Aunt."

Leo blinked and carefully pushed open the girl's bedroom door.

What met his eyes was the scene of Gwen lying quietly in bed, her blonde hair sticking to her cheeks due to sweating.

Leo's pupils contracted slightly.

The ki around the girl had changed.
