Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

*Other people's thoughts that Adrian read are in the [] sign*

"Aaaah... help!"

Adrian struggled, his hands and feet flailing, hitting and kicking everywhere. He saw the doctor in front of him as a walking skeleton with internal organs and eyeballs.

"Aaaaa... don't... don't eat me... please... someone help!"

"Calm down!"

A male nurse and several female nurses held Adrian down, but he became even more terrified and panicked because the nurses holding him looked like living skeletons. Adrian turned his head to the right; the wall on his right seemed transparent, and his vision extended far beyond, piercing through the obstructing buildings.

Seeing Adrian hysterical and visibly terrified, the doctor finally took a syringe and injected Adrian's arm with a sedative to make him sleep. Adrian fainted and fell asleep again. Several hours later, "Ugh," Adrian reopened his eyes. He looked up at a ceiling different from the previous one.

He turned to look around. He had been moved to another room with no medical equipment inside except an ECG machine and an IV pole. But when he tried to sit up, "Grek," Adrian craned his neck. He saw his wrists and ankles were tied to the bed, preventing him from moving.

"Why... why am I tied up? Hey... someone, please!" Adrian shouted.

A nurse opened the door and entered. She immediately approached Adrian, who was staring at her. Adrian saw that the nurse looked normal, like a human, unlike what he had seen before.

"Are you okay now?" the nurse asked.

"I'm fine. Why am I tied up?" Adrian replied irritably.

"I'm sorry, but you'll be tied up temporarily during the examination," the nurse replied.

But suddenly, a small hologram screen appeared above the nurse's head, filled with writing. Adrian narrowed his eyes and read the text on the screen:

[Huh, asking again? This ungrateful patient. You were tied up because you were having a tantrum in the ICU, you know? Now you're in a soundproof isolation room, so if you want to scream, go ahead and scream, you troublesome patient. I really hate this job.]

"What's wrong? Are you hungry?" the nurse asked with a smile.

Adrian immediately realized that the text on the hologram screen above the nurse's head was her inner thoughts, and he felt nauseous. The nurse's beautiful smiling face in front of him was in stark contrast to her thoughts.

"Just go away. I'm troublesome, aren't I? Sorry for the tantrum earlier. If you hate this job, find another one," Adrian said curtly.

"Huh... what did you... say?" the nurse asked, utterly shocked.

The nurse's face changed. She realized what she had just thought and was startled that Adrian knew her thoughts, plus she felt guilty for offending Adrian, her patient.

"I... I'm sorry," the nurse stammered.

"Huh, sorry? What did you say?" Adrian asked curtly, clearly offended.

"Excuse me," the nurse replied.

The nurse immediately ran out of the room, leaving Adrian alone. Adrian lay his head back down and looked up at the ceiling again. Then he tried to focus his eyes on one point. He found he could see through the ceiling and observe the floor above.

"Wow... Uncle Jimmy was right," Adrian thought to himself.

"Clap," the door closed. Adrian craned his head again and turned. He saw the doctor, who was no longer a skeleton, enter and sit next to him.

"How are you feeling now?" the doctor asked.

"Much better, Doctor. Can you please untie me? I'm uncomfortable like this. I won't have another tantrum," Adrian replied.

"Ah yes, for now, I won't untie you, but I'll help you sit up," the doctor said.

The doctor stood up, then bent down beside Adrian's bed and pressed something beneath it. Adrian's bed folded, allowing him to sit up.

"Thank you, Doctor," Adrian said, turning to look at the doctor beside him.

"You're welcome. Before anything else, I want to apologize," the doctor said.

"Why, Doctor?" Adrian asked.

"Two months ago, just a few days after hearing about your parents, I suddenly performed a heart transplant for you without considering your grief at the time. I apologize," the doctor replied.

"But that wasn't your fault, was it, Doctor? You said at the time that you happened to find a suitable heart for me and that the transplant had to be done quickly before it was too late," Adrian said.

"That's true. I myself was surprised to see that your compatibility with that heart reached 80%, which had never happened before, and I called it a miracle," the doctor said.

Adrian glanced at the doctor's head, which displayed his thoughts on a small hologram screen floating above it. The text read:

[I apologize because at that time the heart was actually dead, having been outside a body for a year and a half before being brought to us. But for some reason, the heart came back to life and perfectly integrated with Adrian. This truly is a miracle, but still, I couldn't tell him the truth, especially since he was grieving the death of his father, mother, and younger sister at the time. But this miracle is the second miracle to happen in this hospital.]

Adrian, reading the doctor's thoughts, smiled. He turned to look at the doctor beside him.

"Thank you, Doctor," Adrian said with a smile.

"Oh... yes, you're welcome. But for now, you have to stay here for six months because we need to monitor your condition," the doctor replied.

"I don't mind, Doctor, but..."

"Regarding costs and administration, you don't have to worry. The last time your father and mother were here before the accident, they already paid everything and left a substantial deposit to cover the next six months. They also entrusted something for you that we will give you when you leave here," the doctor said, interrupting Adrian.

"I see, Doctor," Adrian said.

"Yes, so you don't have to worry and just relax here. After that, you can return to Indonesia," the doctor replied.

"Okay, Doctor. Can I ask a quick question?" Adrian asked.

"Oh, what do you want to ask?" the doctor asked.

"You said earlier that I am a miracle. Is there anyone else like me, Doctor?" Adrian asked, testing him.

"Yes, a year and a half ago, the same exact thing happened to you. Now that patient has returned to Indonesia, in Bandung, if I'm not mistaken," the doctor replied.

"I see. And who donated this heart to me?" Adrian asked.

"Well, I don't know much about that, but the heart suited your body condition as if it was meant for you. All right, I'll examine you for a moment," the doctor replied.

"Okay, Doctor."

After that, the doctor examined Adrian. Once finished, the doctor left the room, leaving Adrian alone in a sitting position. The doctor also released the restraints on Adrian's hands, giving him freedom. Adrian turned to look out the window; the wall in his room had disappeared, and he could see the city unhindered. Adrian smiled, and tears began to fall. Suddenly, he realized he was crying and touched his eyes.

"Oh... am I crying? It doesn't feel like it... Is this... Uncle Jimmy? (He paused for a moment, and his hand went up to touch the vertical scar in the middle of his chest) Don't worry, Uncle, I will definitely find the person who has your wife's heart."
