Helen's POV
As I glanced around the dim room, my heart ached. A chilly chill pervaded the air as shadows curled around me. With a pallid face from the enchantment holding him, Scott was feeble and tied by my side.
With black delight shining in his eyes, Leoric stood in front of me. "Helen, don't you want to save him?" His voice was slick and alluring. "There is just one path."
I felt a lump in my throat as I swallowed. "What... what must I do?" I could hardly raise my voice above a whisper. Scott's life was worth every penny, even though I knew this choice would alter everything.
Leoric grinned broadly. Perform the initiation ceremony. Allow the enchantment to bind you to me indefinitely. You won't be able to defend him unless you do that.
There was a glimmer of anxiety and concern in Scott's eyes as they enlarged as he gazed at me. "Don't, Helen," he said. "There must be an alternative."
