Chapter 97: Leave it To Me

"James," Remus called for him.

Now that they were no longer a threat, he turned his back on the Slytherin boys and walked to his friends. Several vials with a vibrant green liquid appeared in his hands.

"Here." He handed them to Remus. "Drop the liquid on the wounds and they will fade away quickly."

"James, what did you…" Remus's eyes moved from his friend, to the potions in his hand, and finally to the ones who attacked them.

Rodolphus was on the ground. He was still conscious but could not move a muscle, not even to make a sound.

His brother, however, was still screaming in agony. Both his arms and legs had been broken in several places, and every time his body moved even a little bit, he experienced an indescribable pain everywhere.

They had lost track of Snape after he was turned into a toad.

The three other boys were still dangling from their feet by that giant plant James had summoned, but they were no longer moving.

"Are those dead?" Sirius pointed at the three hanged boys.

James turned around. His wand was aimed at the plant. "Finite."

The plant shrank quickly until it disappeared.

"They are still alive," James then said with certainty. That plant was a creation of his own. An altered version of an already existing magical plant that can only be in one particular part of the Amazon forest.

The original version was extremely dangerous, but this one had been modified so it would only restrain its victims and not kill them.

"We have to call someone. They are really hurt," Lily said.

"We are hurt too!." Sirius exclaimed.

"We are going to be in so much trouble for this…" Alice looked around with concern.

"No, we are not…" Frank held onto her. "They attacked us first. We were just defending ourselves."

"I saw Rodolphus use the Cruciatus Curse… that alone would be enough to put him in Azkaban," said Sirius.

"He won't go to Azkaban. His family is too influential." Frank said.

"Right! James, you were hit by that nasty curse, weren't you?" Remus glanced at him.

"Merlin! I read about that spell," Lily gasped. "We need to take you to the infirmary."

"I'll be fine, the pain is already passing." That was not true. The lingering pain from the Cruciatus would last for hours, but the potion he took would make it tolerable.

" You all need to leave this place. Go outside, take a moment to recover with the potions I gave you, and then go back to the castle. You should be able to make it in time." James told them.

"Wait, what are you talking about? What are you going to do?" Peter asked. "You're hurt too."

"Forget about what happened today, and go back to the school. I will deal with this situation," James said. His tone was serious and somewhat cold.

It was enough to make everyone look at him with concern about what he was going to do.

"You're not going to actually kill them, right? I mean, I know they're assholes, but…" Sirius said.

"James?…" Lily was looking at him with fear in her eyes.

James huffed. 'How did these kids survive the war?' he wondered.

They must have matured fast after leaving Hogwarts for that to happen.

"I'm not going to kill anyone. I just want to make sure they are stable before leaving as well," James told them.

This managed to calm them a bit, although they were still worried about what he had planned.

"Fine. We'll leave." Remus was the first one to say it. "I trust you."

"Thank you," James said. "Now go."

With one last look, the group passed by the silencing dome that James had created and left the area.

James began by placing a sleeping charm on Rabastan Lestrange so he would stop screaming, and then another one on Snape. If the toad went too far away from here, there was a good chance that he would get eaten by some predator, and that was not his intention.

He then took a good look at the three Slytherin boys who were restrained by the plant. They had some bruises and cuts, but overall they were not too harmed.

They had just fallen unconscious from a lack of air while the plant was choking them.

James finally turned his attention to Rodolphus Lestrange and removed the restraints he had placed on him.

This one reacted quickly and tried to make a run for his wand.

"Diffindo." James made a gesture with his wand and slashed at his legs.

"Ahh!" Rodolphus fell down.

"Incarcerous." White ropes were conjured in front of him before flying toward their target and wrapping themselves around his body.

"Potter! I'm going to kill you for this! You are dead! You hear me, Potter?!" Rodolphus screamed.

"I can hear you, but no one else will. No matter how loud you get," James spoke calmly to the boy on the ground.

He walked toward Rodolphus while reaching for something inside one of his deepest pockets.

"I wish I could make you understand your situation a bit better and give you a warning to never try something like this again. Unfortunately, that would be a waste of time… since you won't remember anything that happened today."

Rodolphus's expression was becoming more concerned. He did not like how calm James was. This was usually a bad sign… as it reminded him a lot of his father. Those who were able to remain calm in tense situations like this one… were too used to it.

"Just let me and my brother go… and we may give you a pass this time." Rodolphus glanced at Rabastan. His brother was no longer conscious, but he was still in need of urgent healing.

"I have been very soft in my responses to all the aggression coming from you and your friends. That is only because, up until now… that aggression was directed just at me. But today you have crossed a line that you should not have crossed… you attacked those I care about. I cannot allow that to happen again. So I'm going to put some safeguards in place."

James held a small object in his left hand. It looked like a pill, and it was completely black in color.

"What is that?... What are you doing?" Rodolphus was now getting truly scared. "Stop this! Just let me go!"

"You are in no position to make any demands. Have you not wondered why I have been more lenient with you? I haven't broken any of your bones or caused you any great harm." James knelt next to Rodolphus. "Open your mouth. I want you to swallow this pill."

"Go to hell!" Rodolphus shut his mouth tight.

James aimed his wand at his face. "I don't have time for this...Imperio."
