Chapter 61: Angel Vados
"Li Xu, I've contacted the Angel of Universe 6. I'll take you there now," Whis said calmly, leading Li Xu and Bulma to the towering Tree of Transport behind Beerus's temple.
"Got it," Li Xu nodded, curious about the journey to another universe.
Whis tapped his scepter twice on the ground. A shimmering portal of divine light opened upon the tree's trunk, pulsing with celestial energy like the ones used during the Tournament of Power arc.
Moments later, the light engulfed the trio, and they vanished from Universe 7.
Universe 6.
A tall woman stood poised near a vast floating platform. She had long white hair tied into a ponytail, a light blue halo around her neck, and wore attire nearly identical to Whis only her demeanor was sharper, her gaze more discerning. She was Vados, Angel attendant of Universe 6 and sister to Whis.
Suddenly, the air rippled, and Whis, Li Xu, and Bulma emerged from a distortion in space.
"Whis, it's been a while," Vados greeted with a soft but knowing smile.
"Sister, I notice you're alone. Where is Lord Champa?" Whis asked, glancing around for the Universe 6 God of Destruction.
"Sleeping, as usual. If he knew I allowed someone from Universe 7 here, he'd throw a fit," Vados replied coolly, then turned her gaze toward Li Xu.
Her eyes seemed to see straight through him beyond the physical and into the depths of his energy, bloodline, and training.
Li Xu felt exposed under her gaze and shifted uncomfortably.
"Uh, hey, beauty... I get it, I'm pretty good-looking, but I'm married. Keep staring at me like that and my wife's going to get jealous," Li Xu joked, trying to deflect the pressure.
Whis's eyes twitched, a rare lapse in his usual composure.
"What an amusing mortal," Vados said with a small laugh, not taking offense at his boldness.
"A woman taking an interest in a man can be dangerous, you know," Li Xu continued, winking. "If you fall for me, things could get complicated."
"You're the first person who's dared to speak to me like this," Vados replied, still smiling but her tone held a faint undertone that Li Xu couldn't quite decipher.
"There's a first time for everything," he grinned. "You'll get used to it."
"Sister, please don't mind him he's from our Universe 7," Whis interjected quickly, clearly worried his sister might take offense to Li Xu's teasing.
"I can tell you've taken a special interest in him. Don't worry I don't intend to kill him," Vados replied with a faint smirk tugging at the corners of her lips.
"Li Xu, you should know my sister rarely shows anger, but if she does, I won't step in," Whis warned, half-joking but with a note of real concern.
"Oh? Do I frighten you when I'm angry, Whis?" Vados asked, her voice cooling as she looked directly at her brother.
A faint silence followed Whis smiled awkwardly, while Li Xu wisely decided not to push his luck further.
"Sister, have I ever said something like that?" Whis asked with mock innocence, tilting his head toward the sky in amusement.
"Hmph. I'll settle the score with you later," Vados snorted with mock irritation.
"Sister, Li Xu is looking for the remaining Super Dragon Balls in Universe 6. Do you mind?" Whis quickly changed the subject.
"If Lord Champa finds out someone took a Super Dragon Ball while he was asleep, he'll be livid," Vados said with a cryptic smile, glancing at Li Xu. Her gaze made him feel exposed almost uncomfortable.
"Women are too perceptive," Li Xu muttered inwardly.
"Don't the Super Dragon Balls regenerate after a year? As long as no one says anything, Lord Champa probably won't find out," Li Xu said casually.
"I won't lie for you," Vados replied, amused. She was curious to see how this mortal would manage on his own.
"After I find the Dragon Ball, I'll return to Universe 7. I doubt Lord Beerus would just let Champa come to our universe to kill someone. That would be embarrassing," Li Xu added.
"In that case, Champa really can't harm you but Lord Beerus might be very displeased once he realizes you used him as a shield," Vados chuckled knowingly.
"Beerus is probably still asleep for a while longer. If he wakes up… well, maybe I'll bribe him with some food," Li Xu said with a smirk. He knew Beerus's appetite was his greatest weakness.
"You seem overly confident. You do realize the strength of a God of Destruction isn't something mortals can grasp easily," Vados warned him, though her tone remained gentle.
"You need a little confidence to do big things," Li Xu said with a grin.
"Very well. Go find the Dragon Balls I won't stop you," Vados said at last.
"Thank you. Could you please send us out of the Destroyer Realm?" Li Xu asked politely.
Vados tapped the ground lightly with her scepter. A divine glow wrapped around Li Xu and Bulma, and in a flash, the two vanished from the God Realm.
After they were gone, Vados let out a soft laugh. "Whis, you've brought me quite the amusing mortal."
"He is quite interesting," Whis agreed, smiling faintly.
"If he truly intends to surpass the Gods of Destruction, I'd like to see how he plans to do it," Vados mused, her eyes narrowing thoughtfully.
"Perhaps he really will pull it off," Whis said. Though unlikely, he had seen Li Xu overcome many limits already.
"You're that optimistic?" Vados raised an eyebrow. Whis rarely gave such high praise without good reason.
"You'll understand soon enough," Whis said cryptically.
Meanwhile, Li Xu and Bulma reappeared on a barren planet somewhere in Universe 6.
"Bulma, check the location of the nearest Super Dragon Ball," Li Xu said quickly.
Beep!
Bulma pulled out her custom Super Dragon Ball Radar. After scanning for a moment, she frowned.
"Honey, only three Dragon Balls show up on the radar and they're all really far from where we are," she said.
"What a cunning woman," Li Xu muttered. Vados clearly chose this spot on purpose. She could have just dropped them next to a Dragon Ball to save time.
Li Xu speculated that the final Super Dragon Ball might lie at the border between Universe 6 and Universe 7 just like during the Universe 6 Tournament arc making it undetectable from either side.
"Honey… do you like that Vados?" Bulma asked hesitantly.
"Bulma, don't be ridiculous. I don't like her I just want to get back at her a little. But I can't beat her, so I just tease her with words," Li Xu explained.
That intense feeling of being read like an open book made him uneasy. But having figured out some of Vados's temperament, he felt confident enough to push boundaries without going too far.
"I'm sorry, honey," Bulma said softly, guilt in her voice.
"Well then, are you going to make it up to me today? I was emotionally wounded being suspected by my own wife," Li Xu said dramatically.
"I'll do whatever you say tonight," Bulma whispered, blushing as she lowered her gaze.
"Haha!"
Li Xu laughed in delight. Pulling out an Omni-Capsule, he tossed it on the ground. A sleek high-tech dwelling appeared instantly.
For now, he wasn't in a rush to resume the hunt for the Super Dragon Balls.
He picked Bulma up in his arms and carried her inside. The door closed gently behind them, leaving the quiet planet undisturbed.
