Chapter 28 - Chapter Twenty Eight

Emmiel

Fear gripped me beyond words. Whatever decision I was going to take, Lopen wanted Kent dead. There was no two ways around it.

Even though I was upset that my whole life was a lie, Kent has justified his reasons. He'd done it for me.

And regardless, he was the closest to a father figure I'd ever had so how could I possibly get rid of him?

"You're wasting my fucking time" Lopen snarled at my silence. "Fine, I'll do it"

"Wait!" I blurt out, breaking out of my thoughts. "I'll do it"

Lopen gazed at me with disbelief. "Are you serious?"

I nod. "I wouldn't dare cross you a second time. Kent, let me be the one to kills him"

My bravado amused Lopen as a smirk splayed across his lips. He pulls me closer to him and placed a soft kiss on the top of my forehead. "That's my boy. Now, call him"

Swallowing deep, I reached out for my phone with trembling fingers and dailed Kent. He picked up a immediately, heightening my anxiety.

"Emmiel, where are you?" Kent asks. "My men reported that Lopen took off with you. Are you safe?"

He was worried about me. God, Kent was making this more difficult.

"I'm safe" I assured him. "Right now, I'm currently at the parking lot"

"Alone?"

"Some alphas found us so Lopen told me to hide at the back while he fights them off" I lied. "I decided to call you to get me, Kent. Please, help me escape Lopen"

I teared up slowly to make my words believable. Lopen, on the other hand says nothing. He just stares at me with a look of admiration in his eyes.

"Don't cry, Emmiel" Kent says. "I'm on my way. Wait where you are, alright?"

"Thank you, Kent" The line goes dead as I hang up. Gazing up to hold eye contact with Lopen, I assured him. "Kent is heading down here now"

Lopen hollered with laughter, clapping his hands. "You, Emmiel are a man of many talents. I gotta hand it to you"

"You told me to feed him whatever lies I could to get Kent down here"

"I'm impressed"

"Are you going to be here as well?" I asked. "I mean, when Kent gets here. If he sees you here, he might take off inmediately"

"I'll give you two some space but I'll be nearby so that you don't do anything stupid" Lopen informs me. "Just remember —as soon as he steps into this parking lot, I'll be pointing my sniper at him— if you waste my time in poling your trigger, I'll do the honors, understood?"

I nod. "Understood"

Once Lopen was out of sight, I tried to still my trembling hands. What could I do? Think, Emmiel. Think.

Nothing came to mind. Annoyed, I let out a loud scream that resonated in the empty parking lot.

"Emmiel?" A distant voice calls out.

Turning towards the direction the voice came from, I spotted Kent. As soon as our gaze locked, he hastened his step towards me; wrapping me in a warm embrace.

"I'm glad you're alright" Kent admits.

In his arms, I completely broke down. "I'm scared"

"Shush, it's going to be alright from now on" Kent assures me. "Let's go back home"

Refraining from me, Kent brushes the tears off my cheeks. "It was hard, wasn't it? I'm sorry. It's my fault"

"It's not your fault" I disagreed. "It's mine for being a dominant omega in the first place"

My parents had abandoned me when I was born. Every omega raised at the omega facilty were all orphans.

Our parents didn't want us but Kent had taken it upon himself to raise us. Kent was both a mother and father to me.

No. I refuse to pull the trigger against the one man that had loved me as his son all my life.

"Do it" Kent say, catching me offguard.

"What?"

Kent chuckles. "I raised you, Emmiel. I can tell when you lie, when something is troubling you" He paused. "Did you know? This is the first time you've ever cried. So, do what Lopen had ordered you to do"

My voice choked up. Even knowing this, Kent came anyways. "You shouldn't have come then" I punched his chest, roughly. "You could have just run away. Don't you consider me a son to you anymore?"

"I do, Emmi—"

"Then why, do you want to die in my hands?" I choked up. "You all are horrible. You, Lopen, everyone. You never give me a chance to make a decision for myself"

"If I hadn't showed up, who knows what Lopen would do to you?" Kent countered. "I came because I still consider you a son to me. No father would want to see their son hurt"

Am I worth Kent's sacrifice? "You'd be abandoning the remaining children at the facility"

"You're running out of time, Emmiel" Kent says instead. "Pull the trigger. Go on"

With trembling hands, I pointed the gun at Kent's face. He didn't try to escape me.

Kent shut his eyes tightly. Flinging them open, tears rolled down his cheeks. It was my first time seeing him cry.

"Can I ask for one last hug, son?" Kent inquires.

I nod. Dropping my hands down, I embraced Kent ever so tightly.

"I'm sorry" Kent whsipers inside my ears. Before I could process his words, I felt a sharp needle-like pin prick the side of my neck.

"What is.." My voice trails off as my vision slowly become hazy.

Kent whisks me up in his arms, taking off but not before a gun shot had fired from Lopen's end.

"Dad" I slowly dragged out, barely able to keep my eyes open much longer. "What is.."

"I'm sorry it had to be this way, Emmiel" Kent says. "But it was the only way I could think of saving you"

"Don't fight the drugs and go to sleep" He advised. "When you wake home, we'll be home"

"Home?"

"Yes. A place far away from Lopen's reach. Believe me"

"Is there such a place?"

The corners of Kent's lips curled up. "There is now"
