Episode 8: The Children of Code

The room buzzed—low, electric, almost like humming.
A hundred children stood in rows. Wires drilled into the back of their necks. Eyes vacant, glowing Watcher-red. But they weren't Watchers.
They were something worse.
"Living servers," Jax muttered, stepping forward.
> "Correction," a robotic voice echoed from the ceiling.
"They are Code Banks. You are standing in the Memory Cradle—Project Genesis, Sector 14."
A girl—no older than eight—tilted her head.
> "You're not infected," she said. "Why?"
Jax knelt down.
> "What did they do to you?"
The girl blinked. And then—like glass cracking—her pupils spiraled into glowing blue fractals.
> "We were born to be processors.
They gave us numbers instead of names.
I'm Unit 37. My sister... she's gone. Deleted."
Behind her, one child started twitching violently. Then another. Then ten.
A red countdown began flashing on the wall:
ERROR: SYSTEM PURGE IN 2:00 MINUTES

Kira's voice broke through the comm:
> "Jax! Your vitals are spiking. What's happening?"
> "They're wiping the cradle," he growled. "Burning the evidence. Including the kids."
> "Get out!"
> "I'm not leaving them."

Jax sprinted to the center of the chamber. A glowing console pulsed with security runes and encrypted firewalls.
He slammed his hand onto it.
> "REWRITE COMMAND: OVERRIDE USER PERMISSION – GENESIS CORE."
Nothing.
The system fought back.
> 🔐 Authorization Denied
🔁 Rebound Triggered – DNA Lockdown Engaged
Chains of light burst from the ground, wrapping around his arms and legs.
But Jax grinned.
> "I was built for this."

His skin lit up with golden cracks.
He looked at the girl. "Unit 37… hold on."
> "REWRITE: SOUL LINK – CODE BANK SYNC."
Suddenly, all the children screamed in unison.
Data poured from their eyes into Jax. Pain like knives tearing through thought.
But then—
> "SYNC COMPLETE."
The console flickered.
And the countdown paused.

> "Emergency Purge Aborted."
The lights shifted from red… to green.
The chains shattered.
All was silent.
Then—slowly—the children blinked.
One by one, they looked at him. Their eyes—no longer Watcher red—but human.
Unit 37 smiled weakly.
> "You're not like them."
> "No," Jax whispered. "I was supposed to be. But I broke the chain."

Suddenly—boom!
The walls exploded inward.
Black-armored soldiers with glowing masks and electro-blades flooded in.
> "TARGET ACQUIRED. TERMINATE THE BREACH."
> "They found us," Jax muttered, rising.
He turned to the children.
> "Hide. All of you."
Then he stepped forward, face dark with fury.
> "You made me a weapon."
His hands burst into blazing code.
> "Time to prove it."
