Chapter 9
Alpha Lloyd's POV
She was having a panic attack. That much was clear to me.
I hated drama. But most especially, I hated women drama. I did not know what I was thinking when I asked her to work as a care taker for cade. Perhaps it was the drinks.
I wanted to blame it also on those multi colored club lights that messed with my brains and did everything to increase my bad decisions skill.
I contemplated leaving her in the elevator and waiting for her to figure it out herself. I had a meeting in one hour and this was not how I expected today to go.
The growl my wolf gave me when I suggested leaving her there made me know I could not just leave.
But looking at her, clutching at her chest as she tried to breath, I knew I did not have the heart to just leave her there.
I pulled her out of the elevator, leading her to the female bathroom, not caring that the women in it shrieked as they saw me, dashing out and trying to cover their feminine bits.
I nearly scowled in disgust. Brave of them to think I was interested in them.
I pushed her against the wall, holding her face in my hands as I forced her to look at me.
" Breath slowly, slow Veronica. List five things that you can see" I asked her.
She whimpered, refusing to open her eyes so I shook her hard, making her whimper again but she successfully opened her eyes.
" List five things you can see around you" I asked her again.
She gulped, her eyes searching around wildly, chest still beating rapidly.
" Mirror, hand sink, flower pot, tissues...you..." She said, her voice trailing off as she counted the items again and again with her fingers.
Slowly, I could hear her heart beat come back to normal even though no colour had returned to her cheeks.
When I was sure she was okay, I pulled her out of the bathroom and into the room where she was supposed to be staying.
She did not utter a single word, focusing on just packing her belongings into her box.
We were silent on our return trip back to the car, the cab I called for her already pulled into the driveway as we got down.
" Alpha Lloyd I'm...about today..." She was beginning to say but I stopped her with a wave of my hand.
" Remember when I said your business is about cade alone? That applies to me too, I don't care whatever you are dealing with, as long as it does not affect cade. He hates noodles so make cereals for him when you get back home" I said, not waiting for her response as I got into the car, heading towards my office.
I grunted in anger as I checked the time. I had missed the meeting.
The very minute my foot stepped through the doors, I was bombarded by my beta, Azriel.
" Where have you been? The meeting has been postponed. And your....Hazel came here to make a fuss about why you were not yet in the office" he said.
I sighed, pulling off my suit and slumping into my chair.
The meeting was supposed to be with some other alphas who were thinking of expanding their business throughout the American port. It would have fetched us a great deal of profit and the fact that I missed that did more in ruining my mood.
" Can the meeting be rescheduled to today? I don't want to give them any chance of doubt" I said to him and he nodded, instantly picking up his phone.
" It can be" he said and I nearly sighed in relief. Then I remembered what he had said about Hazel and I grimaced.
" And what did she say she wants?" I asked him.
He rolled his eyes.
Apart from Candice, he hated Hazel a lot.
" Something about how she saw another woman with you and how the woman could not keep her eyes off you" he said.
" I hired a babysitter for cade." I said to him.
He looked at me with pity in his eyes. We had known each other for a very long time and I knew he was the only person I could trust with information.
" Maybe we should try calling her again
.." he was beginning to say but my wolf growled in response, making him shut up immediately.
I knew who the her was. And after trying to call and reach her several times to no avail, I decided to leave her, hoping that she would come back to us in her own time but it has been nine whole months, and she was still no where to be found.
" Well if you don't want us to try contacting her again then would you at least call off the whole deal with Hazel? If anything she is traumatizing cade instead of helping him." He said and I understood him.
After she left, in a desperate need for some sort of stability for my son, I had agreed to get back together with Hazel, an ex that I caught cheating on me, the woman I was with before Candice.
She had been more than glad to do it, but just as I had feared, cade hated her.
That was why I had no other option than to get a babysitter for him.
My mind drifted back to Veronica. Her shivering face as she tried to regain her breathing back a few moments in the toilet.
" I want you to help me research on someone" I said to Azriel.
It was easy. I had to find out who she was, if she is safe enough to stay with my son.
