Penelope's POV
Baby Selene's cries startled me awake from the first restful sleep I'd gotten in three days.
I sprang up, fully alert despite the weariness burdening my body. Something was wrong. This wasn't her normal hungry cry or diaper fuss. This was pure fear.
I rushed to the crude crib Ronan had built, but froze when I saw what was happening. Selene was floating six inches above her blanket, tiny hands glowing with silver light, while her brothers slept peacefully beside her empty spot.
"Ronan!" I called, my voice cracking with fear.
He appeared in seconds, hair messy from sleep, but his eyes went wide when he saw our flying baby.
"Is she supposed to do that?" he asked quietly.
"How would I know?" I whispered back. "I've never had magical babies before!"
Slowly, I reached for Selene. The moment my fingers touched hers, the light went out and she happily slumped back into the crib.
