Chapter 2 - Somehow alive

'Strange, it hurt like hell just moments before. Did it heal? In this amount of time? No way. That guy whose body I am apparently inhabiting, shot himself just like...some minutes ago.'

An unsettling thought sneaked into David's mind. But it was the only logical conclusion, he could currently come up with.

'Did it heal per supernatural means? Do I have something like superpowers? Does that come with the transmigrator package?'

A big amount of information of unknown origin suddenly appeared in his thoughts followed by a throbbing headache. David winced in pain as the information forcefully surfaced in his consciousness.

Beyonders are sentient beings, who have either consumed a Beyonder characteristic or prayed to a mighty being for a Boon. David Emerick Smith accidentally consumed the Beyonder Characteristic of an unknown being and became a Ghost-pathway Sequence 9 Bystander. As a Bystander, he gained the ability to divert objects, bodies or even the attention of other people. For this ability to work the target has to be within a ten-meter radius of the user.

'Are these the memories of the original owner? They must be, but does that mean there will come more of these headaches? F**k, that's going to hurt. Just don't think about David's social environ...'

Due to the immense amount of information manifesting, David couldn't stop himself from blacking out.

"I should get that b*stard down from there as soon as possible. If more blood from him flows down these stairs, it would be hard to clean them and the ground, and his body will begin to smell by tomorrow."

Having contemplated enough, Theo stands up from his favourite Donningsman chair and prepared himself mentally to go up the shiny, bloody stairs. Looking back at the room, he caressed the upper side of his wooden chair in gentleness.

Materials made out of Donningsman wood are currently available for cheap prices, due to the effects of the tree sap. It promotes hair growth, which is, if you want to believe the Intisians, what many Loen people are lacking in one way or another.

The leftovers like the wood are being sold for cheap prices on the markets of the Southern Continent, which is where the Donningsman tree grows.

These materials get transported per ship to the Northern Continent and made into everyday products to make more money of them.

In the gang, which Theo also takes part in, is a man, originally from Intis, who has incredible hair growth and always mocks the people from Loen about that.

'Well, he mocks everyone except David."

Having unsuccessfully tried to get his thoughts away from David, who likely lies upstairs in a puddle of blood, Theo sighed and made his way to the stairs.

Knark! Knark! Knarrrk!

Each step creaked under Theo's steps, and he became increasingly more annoyed the longer he walked these stairs.

Krk! Krk! Krk! Krkkk!

Theo increased his speed to make less sound and then jumped over the last two steps to avoid them. The last stair really didn't like that jump and creaked especially loud.

Krrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrkkkk!

Supressing his urge to kick that stair as that would only worsen the situation, he swiftly turned left and found the source of the blood flow from the stairs.

The air stank metallically like iron, and he wrinkled his nose as the smell overtook even the last bit of acceptable air, he had smelled before going up these stairs.

Lying on the back beside another Donningsman chair was his friend David with his eyes closed. His white hair glanced at the first rays of dawn like a lamp in the darkness, Theo lampooned.

The upper part of the chair was sprayed with blood and cerebral fluid.

'Has he shot himself, while sitting on the chair and then fell down said chair? But most of the blood flows down the chair. One's body isn't that easily out of blood. Definitely not in some seconds. What has actually happened here?'

Theo began to walk around the crimson scene to inspect it further. Noticing the revolver lying some metres away, Theo grew even more confused.

'Did he throw the revolver away? While he shot himself in the head? How did it get there? I have already seen some suicides, but this one looks weird.'

Then he took heart and went a bit nearer to take a more accurate look at the bloody scene, which was once his friend. Hoping that will explain things somehow.

Much to his surprise Theo found a little metallic item on the ground. He would have probably overlooked it, if it had been fully covered in David's blood, but it wasn't.

Just after rubbing it against his already very bloody friend's clothes and thereby cleaning it from its bloodiness, did he recognize what it was.

It was the bullet. The bullet, which must have left an entry and exit point on David's head, because it was bloody.

Now, kneeling beside his friend he tried to look for that entry and exit point.

'No entry and no exit point on his head. Not even the slightest visibility of an injury, absolutely nothing. What is this?'

Thinking he may have overlooked something, he went back some steps in his theories

'He must have been shot in the head, otherwise I can't explain the existence of the cerebral fluids, but there isn't any injury on his head. Hell, even his hair has some blood on it, but there is no freaking injury.'

Faced with such a situation, Theo remained clueless and stared at David in puzzlement. He grabbed David's body carefully and put him on his back.

Luckily, his friend didn't weigh much and was therefore easy to carry on the back.

'I knew it. He has indeed eaten less the last days, but why? Am I overthinking?'

He planned to putting David's body on his second favourite chair before further examining the situation. While slowly walking down the stairs, he began to hear the creaking sounds again.

Krrrrrk! Krrrrrk! Krrrkrk! Kkkrrrrk!

This time even louder than the first time, because of the extra weight, he was carrying and therefore even more disturbing for Theo, who in his mind made a note to replace them the next time he goes out. He almost couldn't bear it.

Finally arriving on the end of the stairs, he sighed in relief and looked for his second favourite chair.

Finding said chair in the main room at the same table he earlier sat on, he smiled happily.

'Well, at least my chair is still on the place as always and not misplaced.'

Dropping David on the chair successfully, he pressed his arm with maybe a little too much force against David's left side.

Due to being a bit underfed and also not muscular, David fell from the chair in a side-ways manner. Again.

With his head hitting the stone floor, a loud voice echoed throughout the entire house.

"F**k, not another headache."
